I became an apprentice many years ago to help out a friend who was a journeyman. Let's just say, he lost his license to drive and I needed a better job. First bending I learned was box offset and he was a dude that had being doing it for decades and hardly measured and it came out right. He taught to get a feel for the pressure so I knew when I was about the right degree and to imagine certain lengths. Like you I practiced on scrap. In no time I was bending offsets with no measurement or really checking the angle, but the were good bends. Wish I had the opportunity to learn more complicated bends from him as he was just instinctive on his bends and life happened.

The sine of the angle gives you the vertical offset for each inch (or any unit) of length of the hypotenuse. In this case, sin(10 degrees) is roughly 1/6; so you just multiply your offset by 6 and make 2 marks that far apart. Electricians use 30 degrees a lot because sin(30 degrees) = 0.5 so you can just use a multiplier of 2.

can you help with this one -- I build commercial boilers and they are just a huge drum - 8ft+ diameters, we have to bend to the same radius of the boiler as well as laying boxes 3/8 offsets and managing to keep them conformed to the radius so they screw down flat. Some times they are 1-1/2" high box offsets - all prefab code boxes- but sometimes we have to drill out holes in other control boxes that may require a 4in high offset into a long 90 elbow -- This isn't too hard because we can bend by anchoring the 10ft conduit on a lifting lug welded to the top of the boiler-- we can use this to bend the full piece almost completely around it -- The problem we have is when we have to say go up 6 ft following the radius- then break to the left for 3 feet running across the boiler then having to kick back up 90 deg and then take remaining last ft to a 3/8 offset --- that makes it hard for us because we cant use the hard shell of the boiler and that lifting lug to bend the whole 10ft -- its awkward to use the hand bender to try and make all them changes etc... any advice - maybe you can experiment for me please --

At 4:02, "$1000 words" are what English linguists like to call "sesquipedalian" -- from the Latin (sesqui -- 1-1/2 + ped -- foot) meaning "foot-and-a-half long words." Any word which is a foot-and-a-half is pretty long in anybody's book. Use "sesquipedalian" to impress and amaze your friends and neighbors next time someone uses unnecessarily big words to convey a simple thought when a little word would do. Say "ses+qui pe+DAY+lee+an" 3 times and the word is yours forever.

When should you do a 45 bend just asking
@MountaineerOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
