I am a guitarist, who recently crushed my wrist in a motorcycle accident. For the six months which I am unable to play my instrument, I have turned to the harmonica. This video and the teachings of this young lady are the best that I have run across on the Internet. Thank you very much!

No apology needed. I could understand you perfectly. Even if I couldn't it would be my fault for being ignorant. Thank you for the video.

Christelle, thank you so much! I started learning harmonica 4 months ago, and learning how to bend had been elusive for me. Your "sucking water from a straw" analogy did it for me! I immediately got it and was able to hit all the 3 draw bends immediately!! So much frustration trying to figure out what to do with my tongue, and all of the sudden, the light bulb came on for me. Thank you!!

Bon jour, Madame. I think it is not necessary to apologise for your accent for the simple reason that the French accent is oh la la, wonderful to hear! And your harp playing is the best!

We should be buying CD's and concert tickets to see and hear this woman perform. Instead we get what the music industry of today shoves down our throats. Rap and Dropped D tuning so called music has pretty much rendered the youth of today tone deaf. This lady is truly a musician and plays from her soul. That she takes the time to teach the masses is icing on the cake. BRAVO!!

I think your English is excellent..but your harp playing if even better. Like the person before I have been listening to you for a while, but only just found this page. I think in a couple of months, I'll be able to afford a few lessons. Right now things are tight. But, you have helped me a lot already. I can play along with you, though not like you..miss a lot of your flourishes. But I find following along with someone is much easier than trying to read harp tabs..I can intuit where to go, to blow or draw, much better than I can when reading tabs..and it's just a lot more fun. Thanks for all your free stuff on youtube. Keep up the great videos and never apologize for your English...so much better than my French.

Thank you Christelle, very much. I have been able to bend notes for a while, I can make silly noises with my harmonica, mama or help me or choo choo trains of all types. BUT I have never really known WHAT I should be achieving, now I know because of your help. I will carry on with my silly noises BUT now I will also try to control those extra notes. Thanks again and please don't apologise for your accent, it is wonderful and certainly makes one pay attention.

Well Christelle, I am probably making a lot of mistakes as a very beginner harmonica player. The biggest mistake is watching you play all of the fabulous tunes that you have mastered. Your performances are so completely wonderful and I guess I should just content myself with watching you play. But of course, you are inspirational as well. And that's the real problem. When I start trying to play, I sound like a drunken duck. And when it comes to bending notes, I wonder if I will ever get it. Practice is all I can do and while I am driving the rest of the house crazy, perhaps there will come that magic moment. By the way, I love your accent. After five years of high school French here in Canada, I was not too bad but that was in 1963. Now, just like my harmonica playing, there is a lot more effort required.

This is great! I've watched countless videos about bending notes and hasn't been able to make any change in the pitch yet. Until now! I mean, it sounded awful but the pitch did change. (Then I think I lost it, watched the explanation again, got it again, and lost it again xD But at I know it's there and I'll keep practicing!) Thank you so much!!

A wonderful analogy for bending, I learnt using the E,O technique. Breathe in making an E sound and then change that sound to an O whilst still breathing in. The action your tongue makes is the basis of bending. From there it was just a case of playing with the action whilst playing the harmonica to find the sweet spots and the HBs etc. The only trouble I'm finding is muscle memory, my tongue almost automatically enters a bend now when I draw, sounds wonderful at first but gets boring quickly, everything I play sounds very similar to each other. Another fantastic video. :)
@brenthunt4717 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my bends aren't precise. But I now have a structured exercise to practice. Bending to precise notes is very hard. I (u tongue block) and I have to practice the pucker tech more, to gets better bends. I can normally with u blocking get the first half step but no more. Puckering and re-positioning the tongue I have more success. But need to practice to hit single notes well. I love your playing, and your interpretation of the songs you play.
