This is table was made in response to a design challenge to make anything using one sheet of plywood. Did you know that plywood can bend?
This modern looking table was designed two cones with opposing grain patterns. The effect shows a subtle contract between the top and bottom cone.
The material for this piece is 3/4 inch birch plywood. The base is made of two bent plywood cones, each bent into shape using angled kerf cuts on the back and a specific radius used to cut out the shapes.
All the parts for this table were cut out with common power tools (no CNC) and shop-made woodworking jigs.

This is amazing, you could add a hinge and have some storage space under the table top

Hello. One pro tip gor eweryone. This kerf cuts were a little too deep And the spacing betwen curfs was too big. In the end you can see all kerf cuts becouse od this problem. I have done a lot of this typ of work And i rather make few more cuts than not enough. I have done this in high gloss melamin with radious only 150mm (6in). And you culd not seem what was done bicouse the spacing betwen cuts was only 6mm of melamin leftower betwen cuts. Depth was 16.5mm on 19mm board.

Can you take me through the gluing process while strapping it into the 5g bucket? Did you test fit the strapping, undo it, glue it up and then restrap? How long did the whole glue up take?
@HomeImprovementWoodworking
@HomeImprovementWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did a dry fit to test the clamping. The process took about 45 min from test to finished glue up. Cheers. Scott

How did the end to end connection look like cause i know its gonna make a gap so how did you deal with it?

I show that detail in the video. I used three metal plates to connect them and flattened the joints using a large flat board with sandpaper attached. Does that make sense? Scott

Hmmmmn I would use thinner plywood ? Is there a reason you went for that thickness?
@HomeImprovementWoodworking
@HomeImprovementWoodworking 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce. The thickness isn't really a factor in how much the plywood will bend, it's how much you cut away and leave connected on the front face. I chose to use 3/4" as I wanted to have enough material to screw into when I connected the middle section together. This was an experiment and as it turned out, I don't think I could have attached the pieces with concealed connectors on thinner plywood. I hope that makes sense for viewers. Scott
