I typically just leave the radiator (coolant tank) cap off and let the car idle and add coolant as it's drawn down. This makes it easier for the air to escape because atmospheric pressure is lower than the cooling system pressure.

Hi @Autorepairguys, please I have a ford edge 2008 that is doing overheating in Nigeria and also consume more gasoline with little miles, please how do I resolve this issue, please your response means a lot cause have spent a lot and the situation is still the same. I already change the fan and remove the thermostat.

Is the coolant supposed to flow from the small tube in the coolant reservoir?
@michaelaudreyjustthe2ofus8852 жыл бұрын
Just leave the cap off and let it run. The air will purge as it circulates. Cap off, heat on, run till operating temp. Done.

I'd like to know the best way to DRAIN the system. I opened the drain cock on the radiator, but only got just over 4 liters of fluid out. My owners manual says it takes 11.1 Litres of fluid and I was only able to put back in the amount I took out?
@40yeartrucker25 Жыл бұрын
Same here to holds 12 Qts and only got 5 Qts out.
@macker0077 Жыл бұрын
@@40yeartrucker25 I'm thinking the only solution is to do another drain and re-fill to try and improve the coolant quality, similar to what you have to do when draining the transmission fluid on this vehicle. Not sure how else you can get the majority of the old fluid out? I guess you could disconnect the lower rad hose, add a garden hose to the coolant reservoir, then run the vehicle while you fill the reservoir simultaneously with the garden hose and let it run till the fluid coming out the lower rad hose is clear? Only issue with this, you now have city water in your cooling system vs. distilled water/coolant mix.....
@40yeartrucker25 Жыл бұрын
Can't have any hard water with the yellow antifreeze . Next summer I will drain and fill with a 50/50 mixed with distilled water may be twice.
@macker0077 Жыл бұрын
@@40yeartrucker25 definitely not ideal (city water). I wonder if taking it into a shop that has an anti-freeze recycle system might be an alternative, though you may not be getting the Ford Spec. anti-freeze? I bought the pre-mix Motrocraft anti-freeze (3 jugs) and have 1 and 3/4 jugs left. I may end up doing it the way you are planning....

During the first step of starting the vehicle. Nothing drained is from my reservoir. It's still full. I've tried starting it and ramping it up more than once. Are we trying to get the engine to a certain temperature for a valve to open or what's the purpose of this step?

Setting the heat " both sides" does nothing. Leave passenger numbers blank. The driver side will operate both when the passenger side is off. The only reason to set the passenger side is if (example) the driver wants temp at 77 and passenger wants at 69. Its a comfort thing.

I have a '13 flex with the exact same type of motor as this edge, it has 90k+ miles on it and I keep the manufacturers recommended coolant in it. That coolant is the Motor Craft Orange or an equivalent orange coolant.

wtf never rev the fuckn. car like this shit head fill to full everything on how leave the cap off if it sucked the coolant and it's at operating temp idle it at like 2000 for about 2-3 minutes you'll hear the fan come on and meaning thermostat opened if the fuid lowered add some more and just let it idle until you hear the fans turn on about 5 times put the cap on and see if it gets above normal operating temp more likely it wont and go for test drive and should be good
