Great tutorial, but to add to that and for anyone wanting to try making candles, you have to follow the heating temperature and the temperature to add the fragrance, depending on what wax you use. It’s so important to stir in the fragrance in the wax for 2 minutes to bind it. If you don’t heat the wax to it’s potential melting point it don’t open enougth to bind the fragrance, add the fragrance at a to hot temp will just burn off the fragrance and it’s important to cure the candle before lighting so the fragrance blends and cures. Follow the directions on your wax and your have a great cold and hot throw without having a failure candle.

Each wax does well with a certain percentage of FO, sometimes 8-10% or even 12% depends on wax.

this was super helpful, I make candles in those 8oz tins (love them) o this helped me out tremendously. questions, 1. what temp is the wax at when you add these FO's? 2. what kind of wax are you using, I read you need to add carrier oils, is that true? I didn't see you use the carrier oil so that is why I am asking. thanks again!

Suggestion.....When mixing FO's. Take an empty container that you wont use any more, with a cover. Take say, three Q-tips. Dip a Q-tip in each oil, put in the container, wait a half hour, uncover the container and sniff. If you are happy with the scent then the ratio is as follows. 1/3 library, 1/3 tobacco, 1/3 sandalwood. So, one ounce used or whatever, you would use 1/3 of each per ounce. So .33 tobacco, and so on. You can use grams as well, just use a converter. But say you need 2 Q-tips of tobacco. The rato changes. Now its 2/4 tobacco. 1/4 library, 1/4 sandalwood. Of course 2/4 is actually 1/2. So now its .50 tobacco. 1/4 library, and 1/4 sandalwood.

This was so great and right on time 😁 Watching you in Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm in the testing phase and launching my candles end of September. Thanks so much for all your tips! Can you tell me what you do about the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) when you make your own blends? In the UK you can't just list the ingredients from each fragrance, you have to get it done for you by a lab or your fragrance supplier. Is it the same for you? Thanks!

I wish I had watched this video yesterday! I was doing it incorrectly. I subtracted the weight of the fragrance oil from the weight of the wax. Example for two clamshells: Two 3 ounce clamshells= 171g Fragrance oil @10%= 17g 171g - 17g= 154g of wax I guess that means I ended up using more than 10% fragrance oil. Thank you so much for this video!!

This is so kind to make this for us. I have one question so I was wondering where you got the 110 percent from the 10 percent for net weight. Is it supposed to represent the pounds or the oz of the wax. So if I'm using 2 lb of Wax with 20% FO it will be ( net weight ÷ 220% ) ? I want to make sure im doing it right. Im currently only using a 1lb of wax so but i used 2lbs as an exmaple question so i get it you know. But please help me i feel so illiterate when it comes to math it seems to be a little tough on me understanding it but I have been going on my journey with candle making and so far I've been going good so I don't want to give up

Sadly we're not allowed to do this in the UK due to legislation. Actually that's not 100% accurate, you can but then you have to pay for a company to test the blend and chemical composition which can cost a lot of money, them you have to pay for a company to create an SDS and CLP sheet as you can't just list all the fragrances yu used.

Mixing fragrance oils seems very daunting because how do you know which scent will go together? I have seen ppl use q-tips before and putting them in a jar to do a small test but how do you go about choosing what fragrances to mix together? looking at the ones that you picked I would not have even put those togehter, how did you decide this? is there some sort of baseline scent that you thought would blend well? sooo many questions! lol

Great video, I have a queation I wanted to melt some soy wax that I purchased. The container I have is 16 oz now if I chose to use a spoon to measure the oil rather than utilizing a scale that you had. Would that be possible? And how much oil would I need to pour for a 16 oz candle ? And does it matter if you have more oil in the glass for your candle to make a stronger scent while it's burning ?

Hmm could be many different factors, what temp did you add the the FO to the wax at? Also, what percentage of FO did you use and what is the wax you’re using?
@islandstar8974
@islandstar8974 8 ай бұрын
I’m using coco apricot and C10 so the wax can hold up to 10 %. So my 9oz jar really holds 7oz. So 7oz =198 grams. So with your formula. I have to take 198 divide it by 110%= 180. So now I need 180 grams of wax. In order to find the 10% FO. I have to minus the 198-180=18. N I will need 18 grams of FO which will be the 10%. So that is where I got the 18 from. It only happens when I blend two or more FO. It’s good for one FO only. I follow the direction for each wax so I’m confused.

How do you know the net weight of your vessel though? Did you pour your wax in the vessel beforehand? That's the part I'm trying to figure out. Everyone seems to know exactly how much wax the vessel can take before even doing the math??
@MemoryBoxCandleCo
@MemoryBoxCandleCo Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the website where you purchase the vessel will give a “fill weight” in the description Or, I recommend filling your vessel up with WATER until your desired fill level (usually giving 1/2”-1” of empty space from the rim of the jar to account for wicks, lids, etc. And then multiply that number by 0.86 That will give you your wax weight fill number for your specific vessel and then you can use that number for the math :)
