Great video!! I’m about 1,300 miles away from my 6,000k service (commuter).. I can’t find anything (video or manuals) related to it.. is the information only available through the dealership? Thanks in advance…

I have done 2 valve checks/adjustments, on R18's. Specs are 0.20-0.30 on both intake & exhaust. Both measured 0.27-0.35. I set them @ 0.25. Lock nuts @ 8nm (torque) Valve covers @ 10nm

Thank you for the video, a lot of help doing the first service on my R18 TC.

I'm hoping to have a valve check video as well. Haven't hit the required mileage yet.

I drained about 240 ml out of my Transcontinental doing the 600 mile service. Haven’t found any specific spec for the Transcontinental regarding this capacity. 🤔 Guess I’ll be calling the dealer tomorrow.
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. I can tell you from the service manual, the volume on the bagger & transcontinental is 210ML with a +/- 10ML of allowance on either end. If your bike is new, that was an overfill from the factory. Not a big deal, it happens. I’m just quoting the manual.

My R18 Classic with only 500 miles and the rear tire has a small screw in the middle of the tire, I patched it up, still loose air. The dealer said no repair we just replace the new tire. Do I have to replace the tire with every puncture? Any suggestions? Thank you, Adam
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
I usually trust mechanics but a dead center hole should be easy to repair. Did you do a patch only? I’d try using a plug and see if that holds. They may just be trying to be very careful and not have a liability. Sorry you’re dealing with that.

@@AdamChandler86 Thank you Adam for your prompt response; R18 Classic tyers are NOT tubeless, due to the spoke wheels. I thought they were tubeless but they are not; so at first, I used plugs that didn't work and later ended up taking it to the local BMW dealer for full replacement of both tyer and tube. Soooo sad!

isnt this done better with bike level ? maybe get more old oil out ?
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
Yep, you’ll never get all of it out but I usually sit on it and move the bike side to side to get as much out as possible.

those part numbers are for what website?
@AdamChandler864 ай бұрын
I source most of them from MaxBMW's Classic Parts Fiche. You can order there as well. ASCycles would be my rec if you're on the west coast.

Is the rear drive G3 capacity the same for R18FEs? I have heard 180 and 210.
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
I only have the service manual for the bagger BUT I have no reason to believe they’d be different. I just can’t say for sure as I’m not a BMW tech.

Hello Adam, again thank you, especially for including the torque values for the fill and drain plugs. I am confused however because the values you posted at the end of your video are contrary to the torque values you mentioned while changing the oil. You said to torque the top one to 25 Nm and the bottom to 20 Nm. However, what you posted at the end of your presentation says: Torque the Fill Plug to 20 Nm and Drain Plug to 25 Nm.......would you kindly correct this, which is it? thank you.
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
I opened up the manual. Lower bolt (drain) torque is 20NM. The filler plug (top) is 25NM.

@@AdamChandler86 Thank you for clarifying, Adam, I looked through my manual, but couldn't find the torque values.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Service Manual, not owners manual.
