Things I have never seen added to a low country boil/Frogmore stew: All 3 versions of Z's Crab Boil Seasoning (plus a bonus lemon-flavored liquid, too!), Brussels sprouts, or fresh garlic...and there isn't a thing wrong with any of that. I was about to ask where ya corn was, too. I was doing okay until you busted open that she crab and pulled the roe out. Now, I feel the need to drive all day to get to some fresh seafood. 👍
@JaxxDrinkwater5 жыл бұрын
Oh man the eggs for me are just as good as the meat. Some people don't like it and I get that. You are not allowed to get crab that has the (pom pom) eggs that are the clutch. Basically, if you see the eggs leave the crab in the water. I like to put my corn in last while soaking so it doesn't get mushy, comesout perfectly cooked every time. Thanks for the comment Grumpy Grunt.

@@JaxxDrinkwater That they are. Throwing some newspaper down on the tailgate and dumping a few bushels of blue crab and the fixin's out with friends is hard to beat. Here in the heart of the Midwest, I won't eat crab or crawfish. Don't trust it. I'll tear it up if I am near a coast, though. The only thing I miss more about living on a coast is probably softshells. I'd do evil things for a softshell crab sammich or a good boil after watching this. 🤤

I lived in Maryland for 31 years. It was always illegal to catch female blue crabs when I was there. But the females are usually small and with little meat after cooking so we didn’t want them anyway. After moving to Jacksonville I had boiled crab for the first and last time. Brings back memories of netting blue crab off the Dunedin causeway with my pal's family back in the early 80's. We'd boil them right on the beach over a campfire. The ecosystem and regulations have degraded since then unfortunately. But I appreciate the stimulus that inspired that trip down memory lane.

Is adding crabs and shrimp together just something you do? I’m a native of southeast Louisiana and we normally just boil one type of seafood when we throw a boil, so it will be a crawfish boil or a crab boil or a shrimp boil. I’m just curious.
@JaxxDrinkwater5 жыл бұрын
Just something I do. My wife is native South Louisiana (Lafourche Parish). I do multiple because she's the crab eater more than me. I prefer crawfish over crab and the guest we had that day didn't know how to eat crabs and he preferred shrimp. For just two or three people, it's easy to give everyone what they want. Now when you have 20, 30, 50 people, you eat what's spread out on the table and eat.
@IslenoGutierrez5 жыл бұрын
Jaxx Drinkwater Ah, ok. I see. Well usually when we host or go to a seafood boil it’s usually lots of people and one type of seafood. But I understand your reason. Not that I have anything against it because it would be nice sometimes to have a variety in one sitting, I’ve just never seen it before growing up in southeast Louisiana (St. Bernard Parish).

Please remind everyone not to eat the lungs (gills) on the crabs, it will make you sick. Once you pop the top shell off, the lungs are on the right & left sides and normally look gray after cooking. Pull them off and throw it away.
