Thank you for this! My neighbours dog found a bunny nest and we were able to save one that we thought had succumbed to injury. He’s a little fighter and I took him in. He’s been soooo amazing and this helped so I could feed him without hurting his wounds. First night I fed him and he peed straight up in the air, all over my shirt. Now I know better!!😝

Having rescued 2 wild kits from my naughty dog who had found and dug out the burrow. I found out a pair of old wool and mohair mix gloves as the face cloth was awkward with the wriggling! I found these so good at holding the babies when I feed them. I kept quite a lot of the destroyed nest and the kits are now sleeping soundly in their makeshift nest of an old car wash mitt! Here is hoping they survive to tell the tale!

The articles I read made very little sense and rambled on about how you should avoid saving them..like yes, I get that and am beyond it - now I need to know how to save them! And the few other videos I came across weren’t much more help.. This one is better, so thank you. I hope I can keep these little guys alive until the rehabber is able to come for them in a couple days.

I have been feeding my baby cotton tail with a pet store bought baby bottle(very tiny)....We have been putting a mixture of KMR/10%cream/Plain yoghurt and a bit of powder from a Pro Biotic capsule(Bio K, you have to keep this in the fridge!).....We had 5 babies, 2 died because of injuries(the dog dug them up, Mom didn't come back) and the other 2 died overnight. This is my first(and hopefully last)experience with baby cottontails and I have been up all night to feed the only one left! I was heartbroken when the other ones passed on, but like a lot of people are saying/writing that these creatures are so fragile and the mothers milk is so hard to mimick. I suggest everyone out there that finds a nest to do a bit of research(like I am still doing after day3)and prepare to have your heart broken. My worries for this little creature is almost as much as having a real human baby in the house! I want him/her to make it! Good luck, prayers and best wishes may you stumble across a nest of these little, cute, but oh so fragile little critters.🙏🏻

I just had a litter of orphaned rabbits that i have been trying to save and it is very hard not to aspirate them out of 10 rabbits i had two that i thought were going to make it on the morning that one of the baby's opened its eyes one died . The one that opened its eyes was really doing well and actually just started to drink water on his own and nibble on some lettuce .. I woke up this morning and he was running all around the cage excited . I gave him a bottle of goats milk . put him back in the cage . He ran two laps around the cage . rolled over and cried a little and died . I believe he was bound up and not going to the bathroom as much as he should have been .I could be wrong but thats the only thing i can think of..

Don't worry, you've done your best and the worst thing you can do is blame yourself. It would've happened in nature quicker and lots of baby rabbits are orphaned. Take them to an Animal Shelter to be properly cared for if you have anymore baby rabbits from the litter~ :3

thank you for showing how to do this. just a couple minutes ago, my parents took our dog out and he was trying to play with a baby bunny that was recently born a couple days ago and bite her a very small, not deep cut. she is in a small box filled with cotton, a small sweater material rag, and a blanket. since it’s currently the pandemic, i can’t take it to the wild shelter since they’re close and the bunny’s parents appear very often in our backyard. we’ll take care of her small wound and feed her and see if her parents come back to try to find her or if they appear, we will try to place her with some food so they investigate the box with her. we have taken care of other animals like birds but they’re different so thank you for teaching me how to feed them and make them potty.💛

I have been using a dropper to feed them ( i gave colostrum too) and rubbing bellies to stimulate going to the bathroom, but 2 baby kits died within a day and half, just one is left. :( I ordered a nipple and probiotic for them but it is not here yet. My dog picked them up from a mud puddle in a lightening storm and its been 40 degrees at nite. I want to return them to their mom but the weather has been cold. Your video has been the best! I know some went to the bathroom because I saw it on the white rag but I am not sure if all 3 did. :(
@RayZde3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this applies to rabbits but baby Pandas bred in China zoos had a very low survival rate without their mother until they discovered that the mother licks the babies belly stimulating their bowel movements. When the breeders used a wet cotton ball and rubbed the baby's bellies, they had a very high survival rate.

We have had baby southern & northern flying squirrels since 2009. I alway's do the feeding's. Unfortunatly, the baby had a seizure & passed away soon after. Now, I'm wondering if I should have just commited to keeping her & doing my best. I just feel terrible.

I made a mistake taking them out the nest I thought it was abandoned turns out the mother was gonna feed it until we destroyed the nest by mistake. We left it there in a new container and she didn't come back. So now I have to feed it with KMR (Kitten milk replacer). Today is the day after I found it. I had to buy KMR today and feed it to them. It was hard so I'm researching online to see the proper way to do it properly.

We found a litter of baby bunnies. A dog that lived nearby had dug out their den and killed one of the five and caught the mom somehow. One of the babies is a little skinned in one spot, looks like it needs to be cleaned a little, another has a broken leg and the other two seem okay. We don't know when they ate last, they look to be around a week or so old and they haven't opened their eyes yet. It's been pretty difficult to feed them, they aren't used to the syringe we have. We don't know a lot about rabbits and would appreciate if anyone any advice for us. Thank you.

Hi, I know this video is old, but I have s few questions. I found a nest out my window and noticed something was disturbing the kits. And I went back out and there were only two kits left, one was all scratched up and missing a toe. So I figured i’de wait a day to see if mamma would come back, she never did, As she probably knew something got her bunnies. I took them in and they were 2 days old. I got kitten milk replacer. sadly the scratched up one died. I only gave one left and I’m really hoping it will live!! It acts fine, it’s very Energetic and loves to scratch its towel. I feed it twice a day or 3 if needed. It poops and pees good. It’s now 5 days old and I feel like I’m doing the job it’s needed for it. I would really like to know if a syringe is better then a bottle? And if it needs anything added to the milk? How did you take care of yours?? I would really appreciate any answers. Thanks.

@KT63922 жыл бұрын
Newborn to 1 week rabbits require 2-2.5 cc/ml of milk formula, 1-2 weeks litter require 5-7cc/ml milk formula, 2-3 weeks old litter require 7-13 cc/ml, and 3-6 weeks old rabbit require 13-15cc/ml. This is given twice a day. **always go very, very slowly! If milk is given to quickly, they can aspirate (milk gets into their lungs) and they’ll die. It can also get in their nose very easily. Always feed while they’re upright. And they must be stimulated to go potty or they’ll die. (pee, they can poop on their own.) Also, once they have all their fur in (looks like mom but very miniature sized) ears are open and up, and it’s jumping around… if you find one like this, unless you know 100% it’s in danger and you need to relocate it or get it to a wildlife shelter, then please don’t move them. At that age/size, they’re on their own. Mom let’s them go but usually isn’t too far. They are capable of taking care of themselves. Please be responsible when dealing with wildlife. Yes, they’re adorable, but know that only about 10% live once humans intervene. It’s really sad. Some do their best, but just don’t have the proper information. Like, what to feed them. That’s a huge one and one that can kill overnight. Some die screaming!😭 (all bc someone wanted to “help”.) Never feed them cows milk. Not even other pet formulas are ok. Must be a very specific, like “KMR” and we must know how much and how often to feed, as well as how to care for all their other needs. Best rule to go by is if you find one out of a nest, or maybe your dog brought one to you, look for the nest, as long as it’s not badly injured. Their nests usually have pulled grass (by momma bun) on top and can be a little difficult to find until you know what you’re looking for… but once you move the grass or top covering the mom has used, you’ll see the baby bunnies (siblings if still around) in the nest. There will also be Mom’s fur inside the nest. She pulls it out when making the best to keep her babies warm while she is away all day. (She only comes once in the early morning and once in the evening for about 4-5 mins. That’s it. Also why so many think she isn’t around and the babies are orphans when really they’re not.) Put the baby back in the nest, cover up the nest the way it was, as best you can, and that’s it. You may have just saved that baby bun’s life!!🥰 If you find one badly injured, please call a wildlife specialist or veterinarian for further instructions. Thank you for anyone who took the time to read this. I have cared for wildlife orphans my whole life, so I’m very passionate about it. Thanks for letting me share a little of what I know to hopefully pass along something useful to others.🙏🏼Love & blessings to all!❤️

My dog brought in 2 wild newborn kittens, maybe a couple days old, Monday, they still don't have their eyes open, I have been feeding them kitten replacement and heavy cream, today they both drank 2 and 1 half droppers each. That's the most each have ate since Penny brought them in. Eyes still closed. Hopefully by Monday or Tues they will have them open. She was so gentle with them like they were newborn pups. I understand that their eyes will open around 8 - 10 days? There's no way I can release them after they get older, if they make it, my son has beagles and I have a cat, so I have them in a small bird cage for now, so the cat won't get them, if he happens to get in the same room. I will build them a pen to attach to my building.
