How much luck or how much experience do you think it requires to bowl a perfect game? 🧐
@bowlingxp8345
@bowlingxp8345 4 жыл бұрын
Experience helps the most i think. Luck always plays some part, but you cant control it. It might be the allye, the lane, the pins, the pindeck, etc. But if you don't have the experience to be calm and throw good shots, luck alone will not be enough.

.This video reminded me of night in league 2004-2005 winter season. Rolled the first 11 strikes in a game and got too amped up and light hit got 9 for 299. Only time got that close to 300. Lo and behold 2 weeks later in same league start striking and one of my teammates tells me you got it this time. Jinx for sure. Get to 10th get first 2 strikes and shaking inside big time. Flushed the 12th do not ask me how. Guy working the desk asked me how many I have shot since I looked so calm. Never happen again! Sorry for the long story guys.

After my 2nd shot in the 10th I slowed down and calmy told myself to throw one more more good shot. And I don't usually slow down but I felt like I needed to right there in that situation and it worked.

One at a time and I also think positive thoughts along with keeping my routine consistent. One other thing I did several years ago was learning self relaxation techniques. I have a keyword that I'll repeat in stressful bowling situations and it really does help. The first time I had 11 in a row I ended up with a 298. Since that and learning relaxation techniques I am 7 for 7 on the 12th frame. Once the 0hysical game is well understood, I believe the mental game is more important. I had #7 yesterday and 2nd in 3 months.

I have only bowled a few 300s but here is my advice. When you get to the 10th with all strikes, you will only get a triple and a 300 some of the time so don't worry about it. Bowl at your normal speed in the normal sequence, don't stand around waiting for lanes outside of courtesy to clear, just bowl like you did for the last 9 strikes. I normally arrive early for bowling and relax. One night I bought a used pickup and was a little late leaving due to the transaction. When I went to get on the highway there was an accident and a huge backup so I had to take side roads I had never been on. I arrived at bowling just before practice ended, was totally stressed out, and was thinking of telling my teammates that maybe I shouldn't bowl because I will do poorly. But I have never done that in over 40 years, I'm cheap and have to pay whether I bowl or not, and was already there. So I bowled and started with a 300 and got a good 700. It is possible distracting stress can help you bowl well. But the most important thing you can do to get a 300 is bowl at a house that lays down a good shot. I bowl at two Bowlero Lanes that aren't very far apart. One has management that doesn't care less about bowlers, they think they are running an overpriced bar and game room. When their scoring machine breaks they don't even have paper score sheets so you can score with pencils. There was only one 300 at that house in a period of four years. The other Bowlero lane rolls out the red carpet to bowlers. The league at that house is limited to 40 teams because that is the number of lanes. The best bowlers average in the 240s and there are about two 300s each week. Before Covid hit I had never seen a bowling alley rake in money like that one. So bowling at an establishment that understands and cares about bowlers and making money is the best way to increase your chances of getting a 300.

@drwisdom1
@drwisdom1 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevendeclercq3566 Bowling is a sport where owning your own ball and shoes is mandatory (and reasonably priced). You will immediately do better just by getting a custom drilled ball. Using an alley ball is like playing football in leather soled dress shoes. You can't be accurate enough to pick up spares consistently and get many strikes with an alley ball. The difference between alley balls and the modern hooking balls sold in pro shops is like the difference between old dial telephones and smartphones. Bowling is a lot easier than it used to be (and the speed limits on our highways are higher and the TV has loads of stations). But bowling is a real sport so it that takes years of experience to optimize your shot. Buying a good ball is just the start.

Bowling well, is actually simple in the big picture. You have one ball to throw when you step on that approach... You have one approach to make. You have one initial target to hit...(Initial point of aim) You have one intermediate target to hit... (Your break point) You have one final target to hit... (The pocket... or in the case of a spare/split, the pins you need to hit to convert) Take the game ONE SHOT AT A TIME... Just make the shot accurately and with control... Let the ball take care of the rest... and watch what it does, which, if you threw it how you wanted, will tell you what adjustments you should make to lane conditions... and if you did NOT throw it how you wanted, what you need to do to correct your mistake on the next ball. Wash, rinse, repeat... The pins are built to fall down. The ball is heavier than each individual pin. The pins topple into each other, magnifying your chances to strike, or at least get a decent count, if you can put it in the vicinity of that pocket without going flush on the nose or missing too wide. So each time up, you've got a LOT going FOR you as you stuff your fingers into that ball. All you have to do, is make each shot count, and don't throw the opportunity you have when you stand up there, down the chute. (Easier said than done, sometimes... but there it is... It's not rocket science. If you throw a crappy shot... the outcome's going to stink. If you throw a good shot, your chances of having a good outcome increase tremendously.) A little luck is nice... and good luck tends to smile on those who relax and just throw good shots, and let the ball take care of the rest.

One thing I can say is don’t grab the ball. I got really grabby on my first 300 and have seen many people grab the ball and go through the face on the 12th ball. No need to give it any more umph in the last one when the last 11 already struck. But at the same time I’ve seen people be too relaxed and miss it at the bottom (me)

SO TRUE: IF YOU SAY I CAN'T THROW THE TENTH ONE, IT BECOMES A MENTAL BLOCK. THE FIRST STRIKE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. WHAT HELPED ME ROLL MY ONLY 300 WAS SAYING TO MYSELF, HEY, I JUST ROLLED TEN!!! WHAT IS A DOUBLE? IT HELPED BREAK THE CURSE OF HAVING THE FIRST TEN AND EITHER SQUEEZING AND TUGGING THE SHOT OR TRYING TO GET RID OF THE BALL TOO SOON AND LOSING THE HANDLE ON THE BALL AND MISSING RIGHT WITH A WEAK BALL THAT CAN'T TURN THE CORNER. TRY SAYING, IF I JUST THREW 9 OR 10 STRIKES, WHAT IS 2 OR 3 ?? IT WORKS!!

267 with seven strikes in a row was the closest I ever got, shocked I got that, on wood lanes and I was using a heavy oil ball meant for lanes three times what the lanes were, I was standing on the left side of the gutter and lofting it, eventually I got tired and I couldn't do it 12 times. Might have gotten a 300 had I gotten to stay living in my lanes I learned to bowl in, I recently started bowling again, will see what 20 years of life and asthma have done.

To be honest, my average is significantly higher in practice by myself, then singles tournaments, then 3 man league, then 5 man leagues. When you got 9 other people changing the lane condition before every shot you take, bowling 300 is nearly impossible. Put me in practice and I can easily string together 6-8 strikes any given point. 💯

I mean i get it but i don't I chucked a few 8s and 7s before my 300,also during practice i chucked 17 in a row between 2 games My strategy was simple,ignore the scoreboard,laugh at it even, i remember looking up at the front 6 and laughing at it I was so far away it was stupid to worry about,i kept at it and looked again at 9,as an anchor bowler i seen it as just strike out I got up and chucked the 10th,at the 11th the nerves came in,i knew exactly where i was but on my side i knew where to stand,i was shaking a little and just gripped the ball tight and said "no!" to myself,breathe,execute For the 12th i just picked my ball up,lined up and went,i dropped to my knees as it hit,boom goes the dynamite,the strangest thing was probably the ball being the much maligned Storm Sync instead of the umpteen brunswicks i'd bought to that point

It took a ton of luck and experience in the 60's and early 70's to bowl a perfect game. Even after urethane was introduced in the 80's it was still hard to bowl a perfect game. But once the resin cheater balls were introduced and combined with the easy blocked house shot, well we all know the rest of the story...

Take a lot of average yonger (pre reactive era) bowlers today and let them use only plastic or urethane balls, they won't know how to adjust or read the lanes. I would also say their averages will decrease.
@NKMusic
@NKMusic 4 жыл бұрын
Deplorable 12Bravo absolutely i agree, i would just have to add that saying resin balls are ‘cheating’ is ridiculous. technology is more advanced now, and the goal of the game is to get the most strikes possible. it would only make since to upgrade balls to resin as they hit harder and hook more.
@nordattack
@nordattack 4 жыл бұрын
@@AKUSUXs In pro baseball the players are not allowed to use modern aluminium bats or other modern advances that would "change the game." As a result, players today can directly compare their performance to players of the distant past. They are still playing the same game. Not true of bowling. In fact, even when we only had rubber and plastic balls, soaking a plastic ball to make it softer, so it could hook more, gave lower level players dominance over much better players than themselves. Of course, giving all players the same cheater balls in effect can level the playing field, but in practice it does not actually work out that way. When resin came out, many players who had games that were developed using the original balls of the past, could not adapt to the new resin balls and faded from the game as younger players who's games 'were' built on the "hook in a box" abilities of resin rose to dominate the sport. I would personally like to see the same tech limits in pro bowling as we see in baseball. Return the game to its roots. Rubber balls on lower volume flat patterns demanding consistency and accuracy as the keys to winning. Perhaps Bowlero could sponsor a Vintage Cup tournament where bowlers use rubber balls with standard CG in the palm layouts. Players must dress in Vintage bowling outfits. Put a nice big prize for the winner, 100k. I think it could bring excitement and respect back to the game. If I was a multi-millionaire I would for sure hold such a tournament.
@AKUSUXs
@AKUSUXs 4 жыл бұрын
@@NKMusic I agree resin balls arent "chesting" but they do give a person a lot more room for error. I will also saythe advances in oil patterns, especially sport patterns can really mess with resin balls.

If it’s so easy to get the first three, act like the last three are a start of a new game. Try to block out your ears. I could hear one guy talking a couple lanes down, couldn’t hear word for word but it was a distracting noise. I should have reset myself. 299. Good advice though in the video.
