I just started getting hook on those right side straighter shots. Definitely finding the pockets, reading the lanes for slick and dry spots. Now I’m starting to stay on the left side and hook the whole lane. My hand position and release are much better and now I can focus more on the lanes themselves. Your videos have been SUPER helpful and I just bowled my highest game of 214 last night. Thanks guys and keep ‘em coming!

Great advice on house shot bowling. I've bowled for 60 years now and this advice is spot on. When I am confronted by dry lanes, urethane is the way to go but sometimes I also need to use less hand and roll the ball more end over end to get to the pocket. Pin action is less when doing this but it can be the only way to get to the pocket and have a chance for a strike. Make me a shirt that says, "10 pins... GRRR!" lol
@ImMrGuyish3 жыл бұрын
I don't know how much this will help anyone else, but I was always given the general rule of thumb about house shots having 2:1 moves where you move your feet twice as much as your eyes (target). Essentially a 2 board move left would equate to a 1 board move in your target and a 6 board move would be a 3 board move with your eyes. Most of the time with harder oil patterns and oil patterns where the ratio is a lot lower between the middle and outer lane I was given the general rule of thumb to make parallel moves, which equates to more 1:1 moves where every board you move generally moves your target the same amount. Again, a general rule of thumb but I think it goes well with the straight angles talked about in the video.
@aperson66764 жыл бұрын
Coming from resident up 10ish player, my goal has always been to find where I can miss left a board and have it hook in the dry, hit my mark and go flush, and miss in and let the oil push the ball toward the pocket. Once I have this set up, it can be automatic 220-230 games.

This is exactly the problem I have been having in league. Overhooking, crashing the headpin and leaving game derailing split. I was surprised to hear you guys say the house shots can be difficult once the lane transitions. I thought it was me being inconsistent (sometimes it is). Now I'm realizing the guys who bowl well are either playing straight up 10 or playing across the lane and getting the ball all the way out 3-5 and letting it hook all the way back. Playing 17 to 8 isn't the right move, which is about what I've been trying to do (it works well when I'm throwing the ball perfectly).

This is spot on. As a youth I was a up 10 or out to the gutter back when they didn't have a rule about units of oil on the outside. I was a mechanic at a bowling center not too far from Brad and Kyles area. Blue Springs to be exact. I must have practiced half my teen years throwing at the 10 board. Second arrow was my comfort zone. The problem with that is it is everyone elses also. I don't have a lot of hand...I consider myself a tweener. I like to stay up the back and have a high track. With the newer reactive balls it is almost a miracle to stay at 10 and bowl 3 games....It gets burned up. That being said with all the influx of 2-handers the middle can become a mad max of roads also. It used to be....bounce your blue hammer off the dry and clobber the scores. now the equipment is soo strong you have to learn to move in where hardly nobody is playing and avoid the pitfalls. if you get lucky you wont have to move much all night like in the old days. Might get some weak 10's so what. Learn to pick them up. It is better than a bounce off the dry greek church..These guys know their stuff. They are telling us the secret.....most just don't want to listen. It is hard to go practice and throw 15 or 17 board when ya know you can go swing it to the dry and hook it more and be cool cause the cliff is at 9 board. I know it hurts my ego but dangit they are right.

I bowl at this house. The wet/dry can be a little confusing. Use light surface so your ball doesn't overreact when it hits the dry. I use 3000 grit on an asymmetrical pearl with pin up layout. Gives it more of a smooth arc reaction. Of course I play up 10 to start. I will move left and open up my angles some when the lanes break down but don't get your ball into the dry area too quick or it will over hook.

Thanks for the video! Still not sure what can help me! I like to be an "Up 10 Dumper" (or 5 or 13). I go around 13 on most Sport Shots and do very well. However, I usually get to bowl weekends on old REAL wood lanes. They are oiled once weekly and the weekends are scorched dry hell! Just about anything is a direct hook to the 7 pin. 2 handers with monster revs and hand have no problem. Me at 64, not much hand, 14 mph am a different story. Today after wasting two games (one under 100) decided to use dad's 1968 Ebonite Tornado rubber! Straight to the pocket from the corner the way he taught me in '68. If it hadn't been for a couple of chopped spares i'd have broken 200! 181. I want to hook the bowl and be 2022 but i'm just not getting it! I have a Roto-Grip Hyped Hybrid. Apparently that ball is much too strong for these lanes. It does pretty well on the synth lanes in the next town. What can I do for a hooking normal ball on the old fried REAL wood lanes?
