Good video. One point though, box stitching is also done by machine. Likely 95% of box stitched goods. It requires a special attachment and a great deal of practice however.

That’s interesting, I wasn’t entirely sure if they could, so I assumed it wouldn’t be able to be done. Is there a video showing how it’s does? because I’d be interested to learn how it’s done and by what machine 🙂 I’ll pin your comment so people can see I got a piece of information wrong

Cool. Just one skip-stitch on the corner or skip-stitches all the way around the corner?
@Josephmedcalf08 ай бұрын
As you go around the corner you’ll find you’ll need to skip and stitch. Whenever there is two stitches on the outside that could go into one stitch on the inside that’s when you would skip a stitch. You won’t and shouldn’t do two skipped stitches in a row.

I may have missed it but I didn't get why you wouldn't do the standard saddle stitch.
@Josephmedcalf09 ай бұрын
Do you mean why I didn’t cast the thread? Or just the saddle stitch in general?
@sheilbwright76499 ай бұрын
@@Josephmedcalf0 It is possible to do a standard saddle stitch on a gusset, the box stitch seems to be more work so I was wondering what is the advantage of a box stitch with a gusset?
@Josephmedcalf09 ай бұрын
@@sheilbwright7649you wouldn’t be able to do a normal saddle stitch on the gusset because it would be difficult to get to (you’d need to put your hand inside the piece and also you would only be stitching the gusset layers together and not the main piece and the gusset. The main piece you technically do a normal saddle stitch but because it comes through the top of the gusset edge it needs to go through the middle of the gusset then out to the side. If that makes sense? The benefits of the box stitch is it allows you to stitch 90 degree corners together whereas with a normal saddle stitch you wouldn’t be able to do that. It would make sense if you try it out, once you see it in reality it will make sense 😊

@@Josephmedcalf0 Thanks it does. In the past what I have done is stitch gussets with an overlap seam.

@@JosephFernand That’s probably true, I made this video to be quick and to the point. As long as you know how to hand stitch you should be able to pick up box stitching.

Way too fast. I recently learnt how to box stitch and i doubt i could have learnt it from this video. You go over the important points way too fast. I learnt from Corter Leather's video, much better pace.
@Josephmedcalf08 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that, I designed it to be fast like that and to the point which can allow viewers to pause the video then continue to the next point. I do recommend viewers watch my hand stitching video to understand how to hand stitch which is much more in-depth. But box stitching itself is pretty basic as you use most of the fundamentals from hand stitching you’re just stitching through the edge and without a cast to get the same angle stitch on both sides. Thank you for the feedback, I’ll be sure to consider the pacing for future videos 🙂
@edkovac89788 ай бұрын
It was brief and to the point. I see no problems with the video. There was nothing else to talk about. Corter leather talks too much for my taste....
