To correct your terminology, the exhaust air that spin the turbine will not go back into the engine. It spool up the turbo so fresh air from the intake gets compressed is first cooled then in the intake of the engine.

@@alananderson9072 because the clutch doesn't create resistance. I mean I don't drive a turbocharged vehicle but I think the theory is you need to put resistance on the engine, so it is like an exercise bike. Simply getting the rpm up is not enough. Turbos don't spool from downshifting. You need high throttle input while the engine is under load to build boost.
@liljuz1981
@liljuz1981 3 жыл бұрын
@@VoidSixx By proxy they do, if you down shift and your car revs to where the turbo spools then you have successfully spooled the turbo by down shifting. You could always just kick the clutch or slip it
@VoidSixx
@VoidSixx 3 жыл бұрын
@@liljuz1981 Simply revving your engine does not spool the turbo any significant amount unless you have particularly high engine inertia. And when you're downshifting you will lift off the throttle between the downshift and actual acceleration so any boost you might (but probably didn't) build will be lost anyway.

I tried this in my Cooper S. It cuts the power after 2-3 seconds of accelerator and brake. I wasn't even trying to brake boost - just wanted to dry the discs after driving through a big puddle. It works at lower rpm but at 4000 WOT and brake to keep constant speed, suddenly the power cuts out like it hit a limiter and the car slows rapidly because you were pressing the brake.

Your exploration of turbos was somewhat inaccurate. The exhaust gas doesn't go back into the engine, that's exhaust gas recirculation. The exhaust gas does, however, drive the turbine which sucks additional air through the intake. I really like your explanation of brake boosting, though. I guess in a way, it's kind of like a burnout, which increases the temperature of your tyres and thus increases your grip (if you don't completely obliterate the tread, anyway). Also, superchargers do have a very slight amount of throttle lag, it's just not very noticeable compared even to some of the best turbochargers. Brake boosting still doesn't really help them, though.

I utilize my manual transmission to stop the car and save as much brake pad as possible, not understanding the reasoning behind this video sorry

You're saving your brake pads, but wear out your clutch? Which one is easier to replace??

He's not using the brake to stop. He's just using it to make the engine work hard at a constant speed before an overtake or race. This gets the turbo fired up and the car rockets away once the brake is released.

Ridiculous … you’ll ruin pads and increase wear intervals , plus increasing the heat in your engine bay thus stressing your turbos in the process , on your precious build … just perfect your driving technique and timing .. be in the right gear at the right time … driver mod!

@@WCKDStreetMedia I get it, you're really really really young. No reason to brake boost a manual, you have a third pedal. I see this trend and hear it often so I know it's not just you. How ever it's always someone under 30yrs old.

@@Hanibul_Lecktor Are you trolling? You can rev the tits off it all you like with the clutch in, but with no load on the engine you're not building boost any time soon unless you've got anti-lag.
