First things first, the BR 363 has a lapped air brake. When driving, put it ‘driving’. The ‘release’ notch will overpressure the brakes and in normal circumstances you don’t need it to release the brakes. What you probably did is just put the brakes in ‘service apply’ and leave it there. But that will cause the loco to keep applying the brakes untill they jam and all the air is out of the brake valve. The BR 363 has a small compressor and what you’re showing in the video is the compressor of the loco struggling to fill the brake valves of the waggons with enough air to release the brakes. For 5 or more waggons this can take op to 5 minutes. To brake correctly: 1. When shunting without any waggons, only use the direct brake. You don’t need the train brake, so don’t use it. 2. When coupling to waggons, normal DB procedure is to do a brake test. But it takes time, because putting the train brake in ‘emergency’ will emty the brake valve, so take a cup of coffee or tea to let the loco recover (or just skip the brake test and put it in ‘driving’ after coupling. 3. If you want to brake, put the brake lever in ‘service apply’ for just a moment and put it back in ‘lap’. If you want to brake a bit more, repeat the proces, but don’t leave the train brake in ‘service apply’ or you will end up with a shunter that struggles to fill up the brake valve to 5 bar.

Thank you for your help with this train Andreas. Really insightful.

My problem is when doing long distance trips, the train stops itself automatically, the BC fills itself even though the Gear is in Long Distance

I think there was some glitching with it. Trick is to not overcharge the brakes and keep it in "running" I believe when you want to release them.

I am having same issue, after coupling I cannot release the cylinders... in case you get this solved proper way please let us know.

Do you have the train brake set in driving mode? That solved it for me

@@simulatedthrottle6667 thanks, I solved it by watching tutorial, tampering with train brake will cause this issue. Basically braking with loco beake should be done at all times while in light engine and train brake only once wagons connectedm
