I have a Catholic friend who I've been speaking with for a little while and started praying the Rosary, daily and that's given me the longest breaks between giving into temptation that I've had in 19 years. As well as the deepest grief over my sin. (Which is good btw. I had become callous and assumed God's grace and forgiveness)

Thank you, sir. A lot of addicts tend to forget that the 12 step program is a spiritually based program. I believe that the chances of continued sobriety are higher for those who believe. Prayer (especially mental prayer and the rosary), mortification (controlling the passions, makes you stronger in battling Temptations) , frequenting the sacraments (receive grace,helps with presence of God) are very powerful. Please pray for me that I stay sober and humble

My experience has been if you want to be free of alcohol addiction you have to accept that your body and brain doesn’t process alcohol normally like other people do and that you have a progressive disease that doesn’t allow you to drink it. I also pray the rosary daily and go to meetings as often as I can but I feel like praying without putting in the work at AA is like laying in the gutter with your mouth open asking God to feed you and he’s saying no you must work.

Hi Cameron, may God bless you and your family. Thank you for explaining simply and straight forward. Ever since I started the rosary daily, I know I have extra protection not from the outside world, but I have protection from the evil thoughts that come from within, cutting the source of the thoughts would not allow you to fall for any addiction and it is so true, as long as I remain in prayer, I have that layer of protection from temptation. Thank you for being here for me and for many others. This has definitely worked for me in a miraculous way, but I must stay humble remembering that I am still a sinful being, not to judge others and rather help others the way you are helping my brother in Christ. Thanks again Cameron. Glory be to Jesus Christ always.

Fasting for up to 3 days helps destroy many of the issues in ourselves. And dry fasting and cold showers. Dry fasting is no food or water. You can do that for up to 2 days I usually do it for 24 hours though if I do it. I think I have a demon that lives in me, and when i fast and pray, saying the Jesus prayer or name of Jesus/God, this demon will scream out inside of me and use my voice. I cannot believe how much havoc the demons have done in my life, and I'm just now trying to get them out of my soul/mind/body. They feed on the emotions and lusts. So abstaining from food can deplete their power huge way. Drugs fuel them too, they love drugs.

How do you break free from you addiction to human hyerachy? Kyrie eleison ☦️
@johnnichols2088Ай бұрын
Lies. Nothing matters except the grace of God. If you’re addicted, don’t focus on it or yourself. It’s a trap to make you obsess over yourself. Just keep getting up and trying, that’s all that God asks.
@johnnichols2088Ай бұрын
This is coming from someone who has overcome an addiction, and I attribute it to nothing but God. No prayer, no one thing, no single direction to take is what heals you, but the constant following of that still, small voice that you hear throughout your day. Follow your heart, you will be fine.
@jimreilly917Ай бұрын
Have you ever been an addict? Have you been in recovery? No? Than keep your close mindedness to yourself.
@johnnichols2088Ай бұрын
@jimreilly917 yes I have. And I didn’t overcome it. It dissipated by the sheer grace of God. It’s there to make us turn to him. It’s evil, but it causes us to seek him out. All this talk about “this prayer works” is like treating God like a vending machine and focusing on healing ourselves rather than looking to Him in gratitude. It saying “I don’t like my life right now God. Fix this problem for me” rather than “wow, my life is so good I can’t even see my problems. Thank you God.” On top of that these Catholic KZbinrs most of the time are causing fear and worry and making the problem worse. We need to hear “God loves you” not validation of our fears of being broken. Think about it: someone is already trying to overcome an addiction, and when they fall, this thought: “oh it’s because I didn’t say that prayer.” Look at that, another negative thought to through on the vortex that leads nowhere. We need to be simple.
@johnnichols2088Ай бұрын
I have been an addict. Wouldn’t you agree that from a logical perspective what I said is correct? The thought process is “there’s something wrong with me God, and I want you to fix it.” Two things wrong with that: you see yourself as essentially evil and broken, and you expect God to fix it like he’s some vending machine, when what you see may not be what God sees anyway. It’s selfish Catholicism. Imagine how much more effective being grateful for the health we have and seeing his blessings all around us would be instead. All this evil would dissipate and fade into the background. It’s all more truthful and honest. Take a psychological perspective if you want as well: focusing on the negative and indulging in self hate are not motivators to do better, but on the contrary perpetuate the cycle. A thought like “this prayer can fix it” sets up an unreasonable standard for oneself and cause one to have false hopes for healing and exacerbate self loathing at failure. People need to hear “God loves you and is leading you”, not “pray this prayer to fix your problem. Why? Because that problem makes you unlovable and will send you to hell.” Real helpful and truthful… by all means throw yourselves into this prayer, but the way it’s framed is very misleading and I can assure you that the person making these videos, as well as a lot of Catholics, have ulterior motives for doing so: hidden shame, guilt, trying to prove something for oneself. I’m just trying to put all the info out in front so people don’t get sucked into seemingly endless wormhole

You're right. One common thing is that many of the priests who end up committing such heinous deeds stopped praying years ago. In interviews many have admitted as much. Also far too many men with SSA and acted on it entered the priesthood. Hence why most victims were boys aged 13 -16. Total of 86% of all cases. @@TboneWTF I don't know where you got the idea of religion being hypocritical and contradicting from what I wrote. It is clear that is not what I was saying. That there are people who fail to live up to what Catholicism teaches does not make Catholicism hypocritical and contradicting in and of itself. There are hypocrites in all walks of life. Many people in our modern world live lives of contradiction. But in all of this it is easy to forget that the vast majority of Catholic priests live good lives of coherence and decency. The total number of priests convicted of these deeds is extremely small. Around 0.02%. So the other 99.98% are living with integrity.

I also noticed that you completely ignored the rest of what I wrote.
