I think you have to becareful of the perfectionism trap with stopping the wheel… sometimes you get too caught up in trying to stop the wheel perfectly

Thank you brother! You are an answer to prayer. I have been struggling with loops and that’s exactly how I describe it to people there are certain wheels my mind uses over and over and over. Taking our focus off of the contents of the wheel is the first step and working to get rid of the loop/wheel is the goal. I am.

How can I stop the analyzing process during mental compulsions?

You are amazing. I know the theory, I understand what I should do.. but as soon as I try and decide to move that way, the same thought appears “what if your anxiety is true this time, and you didn’t test yourself? Maybe there is that small chance it is true now, so you are risking your health?”. Logically I know it’s almost 100% false as I was tested one week ago.. that’s my problem, how to deal with it? Great shows, great work.

It helped me to recognize that that doubt \ thought \ uncertainty, and me trying to answer it \ rationalize it \ be certain about it is a compulsion. Truth is you don't know, you will never be 100% sure, you will never be truly fine with an answer to these questions because you will have another "what if" thought after that. It's about recognizing that it's all the same stuff, the goal should be practicing living with uncertainty and handling it better without compulsions. You recognize the what if question - you notice an urge to solve it and get involved (a compulsion), and you do nothing and don't do the compulsion it pushes you to do (including worrying about it - also a compulsion). You don't answer it and sit with the uncertainty and the uncomfortable feelings. You learn to trust yourself that you'll handle it if it happens, without knowing how exactly, but you refuse to worry until it does happen (if at all), and even if it does you are going to give yourself trust to handle it in a healthy way. You do this enough, and the brain learns to let go and that the fear is not needed. the tldr; remove all compulsions and the obsession dies, once the obsession dies all the fears and anxieties go away naturally. whats important to understand is that compulsions FEED the obsessions, it guarantees that these obsession's will grow stronger and haunt us more the more we do the compulsions even tho it might feel good at the moment to do them.

So I’m currently on the recovery end of my first ever intrusive thought 5 months of pure torture btw but I’m kinda stuck on acceptance? I understand not to try and make it go away but just be there and honestly bring more of it. But my problem is my job is good but honestly boring. And I’m trying to let my feelings be there but that’s all I can really focus on since my job requires standing around watching a machine. How do I combat this?

Same exacf problem where my job isn't very engaging, and I'm just stuck in intrusive unwated thoughts with nothing else to focus on.

@@nathanielguttenberg8152 yeah it’s honestly annoying and I truly believe that’s what prolonged me getting over this. I’m a CNC machinist. So I hit a green button and watch it for minutes/hours. Not quite sure what else to focus on or the right approach. Haha
