@@ballgloveking it’s awesome to see you and your dad playing catch Chris! My dad didn’t play as big of a role in my life as I wished I played baseball when I was younger but due to our relationship, he never got to watch me play or play catch with me. Now that I’m older I’ve got into playing slo pitch but unfortunately I lost my dad due to heart attack on new years and won’t get the opportunity to have that bond with him. My son is going to be 6 this year and baseball is our passion and I never miss an opportunity to play catch with him to give him the memories I wish I had growing up Cherish moments with your family and loved ones every day! i wish i had my dad to play catch with 😢. My dad passed away a few years ago but i would do anything to just have some time to play catch with him again. For those who read this, If you still have your dad don’t take him for granted. if you can’t play catch with him at least sit down and watch and talk baseball with him. Your videos have brought back some memories of me and my dad breaking in gloves when i was playing so thank you for the work you put into them my brother. God bless!!

I’ve only broke in one glove this way before. Playing primarily first base as well as 3rd and left field I guess I just caught so many balls that my gloves always broke in quickly. It wasn’t until I spent my own money on a glove that I really liked that I took the time to shape it and break it in.

This is probably out there somewhere but after doing all the normal pounding and water, know you have to hit the dry glove to re-loosen it and I decided to try out using my theragun type of massage gun with a bigger ball tip on it and actually went great to loosen up the glove more.

Love the video! Any advice for an Irish guy, who's new to baseball on breaking in a Rawlings Player Preferred budget range glove (12.5"), mostly on their own? Aside from the mallet poundings, are there any good solo catch drills to help break it in and build hand strength to make it close properly? The sport is very uncommon here so playing catch with a team mate is only available every few weeks at practice and none of my local friends are into the sport or will even consider it 😢 How would you toss a ball and catch it to get the shapes shown in your video? Thanks!

We recently got a 44 Pro catcher's glove and no amount of any of these techniques have helped. It's not the break-in techniques, I'm sure these all work GREAT for any other glove, but the 44 Pro catcher's mitt is a BEAST and I do NOT recommend it. If I could return it, I would. There's no way my 13-year old can use his fancy, customized mitt in a game and that's a shame because he was really hoping to have a sweet piece of gear to use as he becomes the starting catcher on his team. I really believe even with broken in leather, this thing is just physically tough to close based on how it's made. I guess we're off to Dick's to buy him a glove he can actually use.
