I'm always amazed whenever I see you going into one of the flight cages wearing a clean, crisp white shirt!

Is that Java rice finches I see? I've noticed over the years a lot of birds have gotten smaller. I remember when Java rice finches were really big birds. Maybe a little smaller than a parakeet. Cockatiels have gotten really then what they were 15 years ago.

I currently don’t have any javas. I have had them in the past. Maybe you saw my diamond sparrows? Yes the sizes of birds have changed so much over the past several decades.

Great video Chris. What size are those breeding cages you put your parrot finches in?
@birdnerd9 ай бұрын
Thank you! Off the top of my head about 2 feet wide, just under 4 feet long, and 2.5 feet tall.

Hey,I have a large cage,with Zebras,and Manchins.They laid a lot of dud eggs.2 babies hatched 3 weeks ago.This morning I heard baby squawking ,for food.Then I notice one of the baby’s dead in the bottom. Of the cage.What would cause babies this young to be killed?
@thomasborg63419 ай бұрын
There probably arent enough nests and the zebras are killing the chicks to take over the nest. Dont worry about dud eggs, that usually happens for a couple weeks when the birds go to a new home. Had some zebs that laid dud eggs for a year because we kept upgrading the cage to be bigger and that caused them to lay duds
@birdnerd9 ай бұрын
Yes I would agree with the comment below. Add more nest if possible. Zebras can be nest robbers at times if they really want a specific nest.

What brand are those water dispensers and where did you buy them? I'm having a difficult time finding something similar to use in my aviary.
@birdnerd9 ай бұрын
I just bought them from my local nursery store. Not sure the brand since there is nothing labelled on them.

If you don't give a finch pair a nesting box will they still breed? Or is it only when they get a nest box they breed?
@birdnerd7 ай бұрын
If you have a male and female together most finches will try to nest with or without a nest box.
