Good of you to mention that they need to rest at the end of season. Some people breed to many rounds and it shortens their lives, and they don't get chance to rest and moult proplley. Always important to let them rest and recover from the moult for 5 months in winter.

Can you do a video on how you control bird mites. I had a canary hatch and when i checked it was dead. I took it out of the nest and there was bird mites all over it and on my hand. A video on this topic would be helpful. Thanks.

Just a quick question. My Zebra finch male wants to build a nest in the food dish, How do I get him to build in the nest ? I have put the nesting Material hanging out of nest but he takes it out to the dish lol, any tips ?

Great question! Sometimes they make up their mind about a specific nesting site and it’s hard to change their minds. If you have an option to change the nest box to something different that may spark a change of heart and he’ll accept the new nest.

Why is my canary not building its nest??

Many factors whys. Chris talked about it in his previous videos. Make sure that’s a female, young female, maybe she’s not in breeding condition, maybe she doesn’t like the male, health issues, etc.

same with mine right now. 2 different females. one is 3 yrs old, one is about a year. neither building nest or playing materials. males are going crazy and one is really ready chasing around cage but now i seperated all. we are a few weeks away. make sure you feed them egg food.... @@Moustafa-oi3oh

Yes I agree to the above answers. Sometimes canaries are so frustrating as it seems like you’re doing everything right and they just aren’t coming into breeding condition for you. Sometimes the females come into breeding condition later than the males. Make sure they can see and hear the males as it helps in bringing them into condition faster. Also, like mentioned above make sure lighting is good, proper nutrition, etc. sometimes there is an underlying health concern that prevents the females from coming into condition.
