Just got into Discus in my fish room. I'm on a great well that delivers water at 65-80 tds. Hopefully, I'll get my Discus breeding!

I just bought one of those nifty filters for my breeding tank. I use sponge filters on all my intake tubes on my HOB and canister filters. I swap them out and put them on new filters. Great way to seed your new filters.👍✌️

Is the TDS also a problem with Stendker Discus? Those are hardwater Discus
@jonathanfuller60554 жыл бұрын
May I ask why you moved the fish when the original was of similar size and was plumbed all easier for water changes?
@TMAquatics6 жыл бұрын
I used to keep discus. One of my tanks was open top. Sadly, I learned the hard way they discus can jump out of a tank. Tops also help maintain consistent temps and prevent dust and other bad things to find their way in. Would hate to see anything bad happen to those beautiful fish. You may never have a problem, but I prefer to be safe than sorry. 🤔

I too learned the hard way.

What’s your KH out the tap? I’m in Cornwall, have 0 KH out the tap, TDS out the tap is about 100. I’ve been seeing my PH go from 6.2/6.5 out the tap down to 5 in 24 hours. I think this swings stopping them from spawning personally. Just wondering what your KH is? Raised mine to 1 now for some stability

What buffer do you use to keep your PH at 6.5-6.8? Thank you.
@SailTimeHouston4 жыл бұрын
You mentioned the water filter you use to filter your tap water but there not a link. Can you please share a Link? I am having hell with my tap water. I have and Aqua FX RODI unit as our water contains chloramines but I could not seem to get the mineral levels consistent enough for the discus to get into that comfort zone. I would add Replenish but it would then have issues maintaining consistent PH... I have lost two really nice Discus over the last three years and am getting VERY frustrated.

My water ph is 6.5 and the TDS is 480 ppm and the temp is 26.5 C, they lay eggs but after 1.5 day the eggs become white, I do changes every second day. 1st day of laying eggs they are transparent, they stay for 1 or 2 days then they change to white eggs then they disappear. What seems to be the problem?
@AquariumAdventures Жыл бұрын
Sounds like they are not being fertilised - maybe two females?
@muradalkaff Жыл бұрын
@@AquariumAdventures No, I am sure that they’re not females. Some told me because of the water parameters, TDS is too high. Some say TDS is not a big deal. I’m confused
@AquariumAdventures Жыл бұрын
Your TDS is quite high - but not off the scale, I would expect just a lower yield of eggs. If you're sure you have a male, maybe he just isn't doing his job (fertilising them). If it is a new pair it can take some time - but sometimes it just never works out
@muradalkaff Жыл бұрын
@@AquariumAdventures I have two new pairs and same water parameters and same issue. My new plan is to use RO water and to be patient because they are still new. And appreciate your help.

So you used any filter for breeding set up tanks what the best temperature for them ?
@AquariumAdventures5 жыл бұрын
sponge filter as shown in the video, and temp around 30 degrees. sometimes a cold water change can induce spawning

I had 6 discus in a Juwel Rio 300 about 15 or so years ago just using the Juwel internal filter and nature just took it's course. It was just a normal tank, gravel, java fern and moss, heaps of moss and some floating plants. I did nothing special for the tank but we've got soft water around here (1.7 dGH) and they were pairing up and spawning on the glass. I think the stories of "difficult to keep" is a legacy of the days when lots or most Discus for sale were wild caught. Breeders in Germany and the far east have been breeding these things for nigh on 40 years and I think they've adjusted to 'normal' water parameters these days. I had a wee trick when I saw the first two pair up. They had the run of about 80% of the tank and the rest were at the other end but they weren't doing much else for a week or so. I showed the pair a mirror and they reacted to it and I dunno if it spurred them on or not or whether it was coincidence but a couple of days later I spotted eggs on the side of the tank. They hatched and it was cool for a week or so to see them feeding off the parents slime coating but the young never made it past a couple of weeks. I had to sell the tank after that, had a son on the way, but I got 250 quid for that breeding pair from my lfs. Good luck with your venture and I'll be following this with interest!

@pnw_element98225 жыл бұрын
Should I removed all the other discus and leave the pair please let me know I really want to make this happen
@mahamohamed53434 жыл бұрын
Yes after they lay eggs in the general tank in which there is other discus for one or two times then remove the pair to separate aquarium the best size is 50×50×50 CM Reduce the filter output flow and keep temperature betweenn28/30 C Put cone and change water When they lay eggs try to do not do much water changes and put some medication such as esha 2000 for 3 days dosage normal to avoid fungal and bacterial infections..good luck
