Gabe, I abolutely loved the info. For the last three years I've been looking at my well water quality and found little info on how to accurately measure, blend with RO, and apply to my tanks. Your 20 minute explanation is more than three years of research!!! These type of videos are sorely needed in the hobby. I'm forever grateful and will be stalking your channel going forward.

@donaldwilson1819 2 жыл бұрын
@@adamtwomey3183 at first, the eggs turned white. When I got their RO unit, the next batch turned dark and hatched in 3 days. However, I removed them too soon from parents and after 2 months they began dying because I didn't switch them to beefheart soon enough. But I'll just keep trying.

Hi, I’m busy trying to learn easier methods of remineralising water. I am on rainwater only, and keep softer water species. You mention in the video that you use soda ash to buffer the ph. I assume that means that you are raising the kh. How much kh would you recommend to keep the water ph stable? Currently I’m using a buffering additive, however it increases ph a lot aswell by the time I get to 3dkh. Any help would be very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

I have 2 breeding couples in a community tank, to sad the parents will not be able to keep the fry, so at the first when 1 couple lay eggs, I remove them to a smaller tank with the water from my show tank, cause they will hatch in that water, it is matured water in a heavily planted tank, I use that water to cycle the breeding tank.. after 4 weekd I remove the parents and wait till the young are big enought to go in to the show tank.. or I should have found a home for them.. my show tank have a water change maybe once every 6 month.. for 20% at the most.. all my fish are happy champs.. I love these guys

First of all Gabe, kudos to you for being so genuine and willing to share your knowledge. I have a couple questions that haven't been answered. Firstly we know the water parameters for hatching the eggs but is RO water needed after they've hatched? Or put another way, how soon after can we begin to relax the RO? I have a 6 inch pair that I have at 2 weeks now after 7 aborted attempts, the female is a Blue Turquoise and the male is a Brilliant Blue Turquoise and is very metallic. The female is doing all the work because the male seems unable to develop a slime coat. I'm starting the brine shrimp as early as I can to help but is this common in the metallic varieties or could he be "past it"? Thanks Gabe for all you do.

Super cool video there and thanks for the great expert share and thanks for so welling to share your very good experiences :D , last time i have two pairs of discus fishes in my 5ft tank and my discus eggs hatched with many babies but i dont have spare tanks to raise the babies flies , i saw the babies eat off the parents discus fishes , the experience was so amazing and the two parents will protect their fries so aggressively and was so fun to watch. and i used a full planted tank as well , i found that discus with plants are good as the plants will balance off the ph, kh and gh as well. i had also recent went to Singapore discus breeder as well and it was so fun

PH acid to alkaline DH mineral content conductivity simple as that. However making the statement of exactly how the eggs are essentially desiccated by the minerals drawing out the fluid from the egg. So the right balance of acidity and low saturation of minerals is as vital as healthy fish and diet of those fish. Balance Consistency with the right application of work ethics. At the end of the day it is our responsibility to not only provide a reasonable environment. It is to maintain the correct stable ecosystem for the fish to thrive not just survive. Contented stock will feel less stress and are more likely to be good parents. Correct water chemistry is equally important as temperature discus are not a gin and tonic ice will not mix well. Thank you for love of discus. Proving that with care consideration and good management they are worth the investment of time and cash to enjoy these beautiful creatures.

Gabriel, thank you very much for your valuable information. I want to ask for your help: My clutches of discus fish become detached from the spawning tube and fall to death (or death and fall) as soon as they hatch, about two days before free swimming. Apparently normal water parameters. I do not use osmosis but I do use cationic resin and I have added a little bit of hydrogen peroxide at the end of laying to increase hatching instead of methylene blue. My conductivity is 180 micro siemens and the PH is 7.2. The initial hatching rate is great about 90%. And parents take care the offspring very well and came from different hatcheries.

Nice video and very informative as always. How often do you need to calibrate the hand held units? So what is the water conditions to get non breeding discuss pair up and start laying eggs and breeding? Two on my discus paired up and layed eggs in a community tank. I moved then to a breeding tank. They never layed eggs. Was in that tank for 3 months. Kept the water parameter same as the community tank. Ph 6.6 GH 5 and KH2. Temp I increased in to about 85F. Not a breeder just a hobbyist.

You should combine the lowering ph video and this video into one tutorial. Show people exactly how much baking soda, and acid to add to a 32gallon brute can to target 6.0 ph when the water is pure RODI water not tap. It would be really helpful. Also how would you suggest remineralizing water? Seachem equilibrium gets expensive.
