Just repeating for the people that need more clarification. The female ekans that hatches from the shiny gyarados parent and mama ekans do not need to be a shiny Ekans to pass the shiny gene.

Does this mean that say a “shiny gene” (not actually shiny” Pokémon can breed with a regular ditto and have the same chances as a shiny ditto? Since the “shiny gene” Pokémon can have any gender and still be shiny while breeding with a ditto. Roles reversed

Important note for Pokemon Gold players: I'm pretty sure wild Ekans cannot be found in Johto in Pokemon Gold, and only in Silver and Crystal. However, you can buy as many Ekans as you want from Goldenrod Game Corner, which act just like a freshly caught Ekans and have a random gender. You can save before buying one and just reset and try again if the Ekans you bought is the wrong gender. It will cost a lot for the 700 Game Coins you need but it seems to work.

The reason I like this method over the Mesuda method even though it is far more time indusive is the feeling of having actually properly breeding shinies compared to just a lothrithmic code, though I’m curious how introducing more shinies into the chain could potentially effect outcomes and probabilities. Also key feature is reading step ratios.
@elliotlevy8610Ай бұрын
From my understanding, the mechanism that allows a shiny Pokémon to yield shiny offspring with such frequency is effectively a byproduct of a mechanism of preventing parents from mating with their own offspring. This is why the chance is applied only to opposing gender offspring, since that precludes father daughter and mother son pairings. (Using Ditto however effectively bypasses this, with only Ditto itself being unable to produce eggs with the hatched offspring.) Because of the mechanics involved, I expect the game would consider any two Shiny Pokémon to be closely related and would not allow them to produce eggs together.
@Toxin__08 ай бұрын
For anyone copming to this late, you can also try to start with a shiny pokemon from the Odd Egg. Its only in crystal, but that egg has a 14% chance of producing a shiny and can be a good early game option and might require less passthroughs. And if youre trying to shiny hunt that egg remember to save before you retrieve the egg.

While I planned things out before watching this video, I plan to use the same method you are describing to get a shiny Eevee. Of course Shiny Female Eevee don't exist in Gen 2, but they can still carry the gene. Of course with Eevee's higher male ratio, that will be more difficult. It's worth noting that the DVs that comprise the shiny gene in a Pokémon are 10 Defense DVs and 2 or 10 Special DVs. The reason why the DVs being 2 can also result in a carrier offspring is because when a Pokémon egg is generated, the Special DVs can be two different DVs with the same modulo to 8. Finding a gene carrier in the wild is about 1 out of 128 as well, not taking into accounting that wild battles probably use certain generation methods that might limit DV spreads.

One thing I noticed about running up and down through the city, if you go down the path that leads into the grass like in this video, there are 2 NPCs that have a chance to move into your path, but if you move to the right side of the area and go up and down, there’s only that one female NPC that can get in your way, who usually looks to her right (rarely does she move that way) and moves up and down and to the left. You’re less likely to be stopped at the expense of fewer steps being taken.

This is one of the best tutorials I’ve seen for this. Makes a lot of sense how you explained it, thanks for making the video, helps a lot. I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the video, but certain Pokemon have a 100% rate of being a certain gender (such as Tauros being male or Blissey female), if you manage to get a shiny Tauros then you can get a guaranteed male, with a high shiny chance.

Thank you! As for the male stuff, I briefly covered that with Jynx being "easier" to get due to only being female, but gender rules in Gen 2 are very similar to current games. For example, only way to get more Tauros would be to use a Ditto. Should have spent an extra minute on that though!

If you save you before old man leaves house, technically the DVs are rolled when he shows up, so that should work. If you save after he's standing there, the DVs are determined at that point, so it sounds like you are doing it correctly. Are you going for male Squirtle with a female carrying shiny gene or? Hey I am curious so when I get an egg from the day care man and when I pass through a decade hatching the egg as I do this when the day care man does not have another egg ready I like to soft reset the game so I don't have to pay when I get my Ekans and Gyarados out. Does that in anyway shape or form effect some kind of chain?

One hunt I’m planning to do is for shiny tyrogue. I have a female shiny elekid (soon to be electabuzz) and a tyrogue I got when trying to hatch shinies from multiple odd eggs. Would this work to get a shiny tyrogue? Or would I have to soft reset for the gift tyrogue later in the game?

I’m confused when you say shiny gene that’s specific stats or literally being shiny

@@PKMNcast i also tried to use the ekans and stantler breeding which you did! It actually worked! But the problem I didn't save it i forgotttt. It's so hard to breed stantler it rarely produced and egg hahaha. But yeah i know i can do ita gain because it actually happened on 91st egg! Thanks man you gave me motivation! I just saw you yesterday on my recommendation and i found out that you're the best speaking of breeding in gen 2 well explained!

Wow only if I knew this back then in the day, I use to always breed for egg moves so my Pokémon teams would have the moves I wanted on them. I remember I ran into a shiny magikarp in dragons den when fishing. I also did the gen 1 shiny ditto glitch and made my mew shiny.

With the shiny ditto. Is it better to use female cyndaquil or male cyndaquil for breeding? Are the odds the same either way or is there a difference

does every opposite gender egg hatch carry the shiny DV gene from the one shiny parent? or are we supposed to check a stat?

Can I save before receiving the egg and roll for the shiny with that 1 egg, or do I need to wait for a new egg each time?

can i breed for a male shiny? like say i take the male shiny gene ekans and breed it with a normal female cyndaquil, then i get a shiny gene female cyndaquil and breed that with a normal male cyndaquil. will the resulting male offspring have a chance to be shiny? thanks if you see this comment, also great video!

That would be correct based on how you typed it!

Can you combine this method with the Masuda one? And does it only work for Gen 2 or also in e.g. Gen 5 as well?
@PKMNcast11 ай бұрын
Masuda Method wasn’t a thing until Gen 4
@PokeArtistAce2 жыл бұрын
So theoretically, we breed until we get the shiny female ekans, then breed eevee and ekans to get a shiny male eevee. Then you’d be able to breed eevee and the shiny eevee to get a shiny female eevee? That is if that’s how it works. I know this video is like a year old but I wanted to ask

So I want to breed for a shiny zubat. I found a random shiny male noctowl in the wild, and decided I wanted to breed it with my female Crobat. Can I just use those two alone to get the 1/128 chance of a shiny zubat?

Lots of ppl know about this glitch with ditto and shiny gyarados using the gen 1. But it is not that hard to get a legit Ditto with a "shiny DNA" without glitches, and then open your way to get any shiny version of species that can be bred with ditto, with that TRUE odd of 1/64 per hatch. All you have to do is: catch a ditto with a 10 Defense IV AND a 2 or 10 Special IV and it has the Shiny DNA! This is gonna take a while to explain this method, Srry 😆 To be sure of these IVs: you must catch it with certain stats and level up him AT DAY CARE (preventing it from getting EVs and is also faster. You can also use rare candies if you have) until reach certain levels and checking its stats at those levels. A ditto in order to have a shiny DNA must be caught with a combination of stats DEF/SPC: 16/15 OR 16/16 (at level 10). In order to check the SPC stat of 15, it MUST get +1 at each level, until it reach level 50 (SPC 55 points), unfortunately we can only be sure of its IV being 2 at this point. If at any other level before level 51, the Ditto get a +2 to the SPC stat, it doesnt have the Shiny DNA. In order to check the stat with value of 16 (this check works the same way for both DEF and SPC stats), You only need to check the stat at two levels: at Lv12 it MUST BE 18 and at Lv13 it MUST get a +2, becoming 20. Then if thats true, you got the 10 IV. In short: If u caught a ditto: A) with 16/15 (def/spc) stats; B) got +1 spc till LV50; C) def was 18 at Lv12; and D) def was 20 at Lv13. YAY! You found a Shiny DNA Ditto. If u caught a ditto: A) with 16/16 (def/spc) stats; B) both stats were 18 at Lv12; and C) both stats were 20 at Lv13. YAY! You also found a Shiny DNA Ditto. In terms of practice, that was my experience until now: I got this Ditto with 10 DEF IV and 2 SPC IV in less than 40 attempts (cant remember the exact number). After that, using this Ditto, I bred: 1- a shiny totodile in less than 20 eggs. 2- two shinies chikorita in less than 15 eggs. (When hatched the first one, the second egg with a shiny inside was already created and in team hatching) 3- now Im trying cyndaquil, being hatched about 30 eggs.

You may already know that if a pokemon have the right iv in gen 1 gane and traded to a gen 2 game it will be a shiny pokemon. To get a shiny ditto easily is to trade your red gyradoss that you already have from gen 2 game to gen 1 game and once your red gyradoss is in gen 1 game, teach it mimic . Mimic can be learned from a TM. Then go to a wild battle with ditto. Use the move mimic and make sure your mimic hits first and your red gyradoss will learn transform. Then the ditto will use transform on you. Then use any random move on ditto (make sure it doesn't kill ditto ) also don't use mimic for the second time. As your gyradoss knows transform the ditto will use transform for the second time you just need to wait until it uses. Due to some glitch in gen 1 games when ditto uses transform for the second time it also coppies the iv of the opposite Pokemon permanently. Then go ahead and catch it and trade your ditto and gyradoss to gen 2 game and the ditto will be a shiny ditto.
