Learn how to brew your best in a Kalita Wave pour over brewer. This is a real time video so you can let us be your guide and brew alongside our best baristas.
With its stainless steel and wavy contours, the Kalita Wave wins over coffee and design enthusiasts alike. It’s a favorite pour over brew method for home use and it’s great on the go, too. The flat-bottom filter helps with even extraction while brewing. The key to mastering this brewer is the slow spiral pour. Happy brewing!

I've been through a lot of different methods and coffee equipment but at a certain point I realised; you can get that 'magic cup' using just about any coffee and a basic kitchen pot. See Mors Kochanski's method;) Sometimes brewing any amount (a lot) of coffee then dumping it into a filter doesn't work out cafe quality but it is is still hot, black and contains a shit tonne of caffeine. Another observation to record, is that I can use cheap as hell grinder, do two lots of random consistency, mix it in together, leave it on the sink for an hr, add overheated milk with skin and just enjoy the hell out of it. Yesterday I boiled cheap supermarket grounds in tap water, legitimately was one of the best cups ever. On a 24hr shift once there was no electricity (or heat source) so I just soaked the instant coffee in cold water, look I would not recommended that but it got me thinking.. I guess you could say I've strayed as a percurer of fine coffee and become more of depraved, maniacal caffeine addict. In fact I would like to go on record to say that I could enjoy any cup of coffee more than not having any coffee. I prob will buy this thing though

You use preground coffee but you bring a scale camping? Wtf
@itsumonihon
@itsumonihon 7 жыл бұрын
i think there are a few reasons she did this: 1) to demonstrate visibly to youtubers the weight of the coffee being put into the filter. 2) because the amount of water is very important to getting the right taste of coffee. of course you could go by "cups" measurements of water, but "1 cup" means different things in different parts of the world. 1 cup in the USA is not the same as 1 cup where I live, Japan. so the scale equals things out by showing us the exact gram weight. 3) the timing of the pour is important. by having the scale present, we can see sort of how much water should be poured at what time. using this as a guide, we can also get some info for how fine or coarse to grind our coffee in order to achieve similar times and weights as we see in the video.
@itsumonihon
@itsumonihon 7 жыл бұрын
last but not least, preground coffee could mean ground just prior to the camping trip. coffee does not lose that much flavor if ground within 12-24 hours of use. more than that, oils & flavors start to leach out or oxidize and disappear. to be honest though how many people watching this have the kind of palette to distinguish the loss? i'd bet a month's salary that 99/100 people reading this comment couldn't do it if put to a blind taste test on the issue. give her a break, she took the effort to make this video for us which was pretty useful :)

+azura abu bakar what's the point of the scale if you're just going to stare at the water level anyway. Besides, that carafe is glass. You shouldn't bring items like glass into a forest. It's easily broken and then you will end up leaving fragments/shards of glass in the forest no matter how hard you try to clean it up. Fine for a video, bad idea in practice.

riddled with problems.. the "highest quality coffee available" is not pre-ground. ever. 60g water for 21g coffee is too much for a bloom (just look how much leaked through), 375g of water is definitely not equal to 300mL (it's 375mL of course... the amount stuck to the beans is maybe ~30mL), the pouring was done with little to no skill/effort, and you definitely don't need to bring 2 fragile glass/ceramic carafes to make a single cup of coffee with your "super durable" stainless steel dripper. I've had some awesome coffees from Stumptown, no doubt, but this video is bunk.

375g of hot water does not equal 300ml in the cup. the grounds absorb a lot of water. the filter/dripper after adding water are significantly heavier than before adding hot water. the pour was not well done, i'll agree on that, and the carafe also not necessary, but if your cup is too large to rest the dripper on, you need it. the carafe makes it easier to judge if you're in the right ballpark with your pour.

LOL. Well, at least the wave is durable. Everything else is super fragile. And why brew directly into your mug, when you can brew into a different container, and then pour it into your mug. And why weigh it in the wave on top of the mug, when you can pour beans into a different container, and then pour it into the wave on top of a totally unnecessary container, and then pour that container into your third container the ceramic mug that was “heated” with a tablespoon of water. So much here, none of which are as durable as the brew device. This is a classic example of “it’s on the internet so it must be true” but it’s so bizarre we can’t stop watching. Just… wow.

if you bring a digital scale, a timer, a glass coffee pot, a bowl, a mug and still fuck up the coffee to water ratio, grind size and also use preground coffee something is wrong with you. theres so much wrong in this video. just make cowboy coffee and it will taste just as shitty as the coffee in the video without bringing half your kitchen.
