He leaves out important info though (I can think of 2 things off the top of my head) that you HAVE to do to not deal with the pretty explosive valve release activating and messing with your moka pot.

Great video! I’m just getting in to “proper” coffee, don’t have the most sensitive palate and can’t always tell the difference between different brewing methods, but moka pot is hands down my favourite. I get a great rich taste from it and something about the brewing process itself feels much more satisfying than any other method!

@@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee more often than not, I don't get that smooth flowing brew. it spits out a bit. what's usually causing that? too much coffee in the filter?
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would be to much coffee. It is most likely the heat. Adjust the temp down after a bit of time or right when you see it come out. It takes some experimenting to find the right amount of heat. I turn my heat down a bit towards the end to mitigate the pressure being so high. That will give a nice easy flow upward instead of spraying out. Don’t get discouraged if it takes a few times to find that sweet spot. Good luck!

Best moka pot tutorial I have yet seen. “How to make moka pot coffee like a MAN!” Not with pre-heated water, or rinsing with cold water, measuring out precise metric measurements. Just make the dang coffee like a Man! Women, nerds, hippy-dippy hipsters, and blue-haired They/Them type people need all that precision to make their perfect little prissy-sissy cup of coffee. Just make the coffee! Sometimes it may not be quite as good as others, just deal with it and drink it anyway. Handle your business like a man. I’ve been making moka pot coffee for the better part of two decades. This fella here shows you like it is, just make the coffee and enjoy it. His moka coffee was foaming with toxic masculinity. Good job dude. Great tutorial video of the moka pot.

I do mine almost exactly like you do except for that last bit. I try to prevent blow-by, which is when the coffee spews at the end of the boil. Preventing this controls for bitterness. I only want to taste the bean if possible. Good video.

The 'blow-by' is actually called Strombolism or The Stromboli effect(after the volcano - make sense). To be avoided, as after that starts, the coffee is boiling in the top chamber and becomes bitter.

Came back to post at 1:50 is my favourite part and always gets me chuckling. I have a 1cup and a 3cup. My 3cup holds 15g of coffee powder and around 130-140g of water. My little one is probably around 100g of water and g of coffee powder. I use the 3cup due to us Americans prefer more coffee. I like more because of taste. I know 1-12 cup Moka pots are based on Italy measurements.

Yeah which is why it's not uncommon to dilute the coffee down with hot water to taste. I like to use a 3 cup moka pot and then fill up my thermos with hot water the rest of the way at about a 1:1 ratio and can sip on it all the way until lunchtime.

I use regular coffee filters, cutting them to fit the basket size then wet the filter snd put on the bottom of the receiving chamber. I also boil the water in the bottom chamber, then turn the heat all the way down so i can drop the basket in, the go back to medium heat after tightening the top. Turn the heat to low once the coffee first starts filling the chamber. I also do not find it necessary to cool the lower chamber to stop the brewing. As long as you brew it slowly there wont be a strong gurgle at the end.

Just moved to Italy for a lil while and decided to try out a moka pot because “do like the Italians do.” I’m a fan of French pressed coffee, drip coffee, and I even had an espresso machine in the past. I wish I watched this first before trying. Went with another vid that mentioned to use hot water first. Well I did and almost burned my hands trying to put the top on. Even had steam come out from the side because the gasket didn’t seal properly. Next time I’ll use cold and see what happens.

A Moka Pot is a staple in Cuban household. It's how Cuban coffee is made. I have a few of different sizes. You can go just past (higher) than the valve with water. Don't worry, it won't blow up. Been doing it that way most my life (30 years). I brew a couple batches just before going to work daily. Make it just before going to sleep too. Oh and the Bialetti brand is the best. Make sure it's made in Italy. Will last years even with daily use.

@@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee Oh by the way, the pot that I use in the mornings (well most the time I use it) is the 1 Cup Bialetti Moka Pot. It's big enough for 2 shots of coffee (about 2 oz each) in case you wanted to share, or one big shot. 2 teaspoons of sugar is enough for the 1 Cup. I brew a batch when I get up in the morning and one before going to work, because I like it hot and fresh. I have the 3 cup Bialetti for when there's visitors. Just keep the metal strainer clean and clear (holes get plugged up). Sometimes the rubber gasket needs replacing when they get old. My grandma has a 6 cup monster that she has used for years. She brews a batch, puts it in a thermos and pours a shot every now and then and repeats when the thermos is empty. The Cuban coffee brands I use are La Llave, sometimes Bustelo. Lavazza coffee has an interesting flavor. I believe Lavazza is an Italian brand (I could be wrong).
