This is SO important! "Budgeting with a Partner" should be mandatory for anyone entering into a marriage contract :-).

Love this. Thanks, y'all. One nitty-gritty tip from my two-budget household: We split up groceries and dining out by week. I do dining out one week while my partner handles groceries, and next week we swap. It's totally fixed our problem of collectively overspending when working out of two budgets, because there's a single (okay, double, but you know what I mean) source of truth to reference for each decision - can we get Indian food tonight? can we get five pounds of chicken to freeze this week? - and each of us is responsible for making sure our weeks for the month are covered. Highly recommend!

Love this! We have had to blend our styles - I like to peck away at a goal and put as much towards it as possible, my husband likes to have money available for a whim or adventure. We’re starting an adventure category so that I can zero-base budget for an interest that will crop up down the road.

Starting week 7 of YNAB and really loving it. I love the little tips I pick up like the pinning being per phone. Pinned 3 categories right after this video. Thanks for this series both of you! Cheers

Just started weekly YNAB budget chats with my wife. Thursday nights......I used to dread them but now look forward to them. Still getting used to YNAB but happy so far. Not sure if I am at the stage of wearing a YNAB hoodie just yet though ..... 😀

My wife and I (joint accounts) always budget together. It helps to ensure we're agreed on our goals, what were putting towards them and avoid at least some of the usual arguments 😉. We also allocate an equal amount of money to a general spending/slush fund category each for guilt free spontaneous purchases, though I hardly touch mine most months so she often ends up spending mine as well 🤔😛

Our main budget meeting happens once a month, we are super simplified and only have one joint account in our YNAB budget. We also review the monthly snapshot of our net worth statement every few months. Then we have a quick few minutes discussion every Friday night to catch any unexpected items we forgot about.

This is great... I was getting disappointed because my hubby doesn’t get into budgeting like me. He just ask if he can buy. Lol

I'm team YNAB and my fiancé is team Mint. 😂. We both want to budget short term expenses.. we will have separate accounts until I begin my career, then two separate and a combined account. It will be eye opening! I'm still on accomplishment mountain from the 30daychallenge and have continued to not spend outside essentials. The freedom of being 2 mos ahead is WORTH it. 💖 I also think it's interesting that women tend to make 82% of household purchasing decisions but are often less involved in family financial management/bring in much lower income. For example, he makes 30% more than I will as a new grad, some of that is field and experience related but he is in the camp that who works the most hours gets the most say.

What are the differences between mint and ynab?

Sounds like a recipe for a lot of money fights down the road. You'll get a lot more accomplished if you work together as a team vs arguing over who has the most say. But I'm just a middle aged guy that's been married for many years.

IM THINKING MAYBE TRY TO HAVE A GRATITUDE DISCUSSION IN THE FUTURE...ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT IN WHICH YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR...IN ADDITION TO ALL THE THINGS THAT IN WHICH YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGHOUT YOUR FINANCIAL JOURNEY THUS FAR...

would have been helpful if they shared their screen and gave us actual examples vs just talking. That is more actionable vs listening to their stories.

Appreciate the feedback! If you're interested, we do have recordings of a workshop on this topic on the Live tab of our channel. Those have a lot of actual examples. ~Ernie

I usually really like these but they should have had a women’s perspective instead of taking it for face value that their wives experience is what they say they are.

I’m now trying to get my husband familiar with YNAB. We are only two months into using it but I watched videos and did research for a year before I committed lol. My husbands big motivator was me showing him how much debt we’ve paid off and when we need 4 new tires and I said buy them bc we have the money. I think those were big moments for him. *disclaimer we’ve been budgeting since 2019 but used EveryDollar up until recently.
