A little drop, or set of progressive drops is great for helping kids/progressing riders feel out different techniques for dropping at different heights. 6 inches, 12 inches, 18 inches, up to 2 feet.

if you have any elevation in your yard, drops are also very easy, just find a spot with a mellow slope, then dig dirt from the landing onto where you want the actual drop... Pack it down and you're done!

Start out with a bunch of tabletop jumps there simple and easy instead of the those kicker and gap jumps. There a perfect beginner jump and u can’t case it so try it out especially fro the little kids they would love it.

What if you have a smaller yard?
@singletracks Жыл бұрын
I'd focus on lower speed features like skinnies, log stacks, and big rocks if you can find some. An adjustable, portable ramp could work well in a small yard too.

Oof. As a old skateboarder turned mountain biker, I could have warned you that plywood ramps and weather do not mix well at all. Paint, polyurethane, even tarps, you name it, it won't protect against extended rainy or winter weather. Unless you live in California or the desert southwest or something, your only real option is skatelite or ramp armor or something like that, and those are pretty darned expensive. NOT as expensive as resurfacing a 12' wide mini half pipe every year though. Ask me how I know.
@singletracks3 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, I bet that's a big problem on huge ramps! I ended up taking the plywood off and fortunately the 2x4 supports are spaced close enough that it works fine without the plywood cover. Probably wouldn't work for skate wheels tho LOL.
