Caterpillar workers hand-build the 229,000-pound D11 tractor in Peoria, Illinois.

My Dad was on the original build team and help build some of the first D11"s. He built up the engine then he and his partner installed the engine. His partner hooked the engine up to the tractor. CAT took the build team to see the engines being built, they also got to go to the proving ground and run a D11. My Dad retired from the D11Build Team and CAT with 38years, He started work at CAT at the age of 19. Being on the built team at the beginning was very special.

No, anyone who thinks Kamatsu is better, or even in the same league, has obviously never owned or operated a Caterpillar Dozer, or any piece of mining equipment. Some people get suckered into buying, what appears to be a good deal. They soon learn you get what you pay for. Check out the amount of repeat customers that Caterpillar has compared to Kamatsu.

in the machinery business, this is a tractor. Its made to pull or push things. Go to the dealer who sells these and he will call them tractors also. Its only a bulldozer when you put the blade on. I was Cat salesman, before you go to telling me what I know.

I am simply amazed at what humans can build nowadays. If the money is there..somebody will build it. It's mind boggling at the complexity of some projects..like the F-22 Raptor for example, or the B2...massive construction machines, modern main battle tanks, space stations. If people 2000 years ago could see this stuff..they would think we were gods.

Holy shit with the TRACTOR comments. A dozer is the blade attached to the front not the unit pushing it. Go on Cats website and Dozers are listed under "Wait for It" Track Type Tractors OOOOOHHHHHHHH Burn. And I think they would know seeing as how they pretty much invented tracks. Remember a track loader is a tractor with a loader on it, a dozer is a tractor with a dozer blade on it.
@999across9 жыл бұрын
+donchavross IIRC the first tracked vehicle were invented by some English guy in the early to mid 1800's. Of Course, there could have been multiple people working on similar ideas & only one person is viewed as the actual "creator." And John Froelich an American from Iowa is credited & viewed as the inventor of the first gas powered tractor.

>This reporter did not prepare herself for this interview. It was shallow. "Oh what is that a seat?" For the driver? Hey, lady, these are driverless tractors. The seat is for nostalgia. HA. Another thing: we build great stuff here in North America and we are free. In China, it is a wonder the workers do not have their shoes nailed to the factory floor, >There is a great book written by Studs Terkel called, if I remember correctly, "The Line" and was about assembly line workers pre WWII. We have come a long way. We make terrific products here. Made in the USA, Made in Canada, Made in Mexico means something. China sends us junk. They stole from the West. Their jets are copies of the F-22 and F-35 technology. Their aircraft carriers? Their jet engines are copies but cannot last like the USA or Canadian jets do. They bought a piece of junk aircraft carrier from Russia and copied it. It is no match the USA fleet. >Make no mistake about this: China is doing exactly what Japan did leading up to Pearl Harbour and look how that ended up. I am Canadian but I can say this: "Never, never, never underestimate the United States and its people!" >The Chinese government is spreading its reach for resources across Asia into Africa. That is what Japan tried pre WWII. As their Japanese foreign minister said after the Pearl attack, "I am afraid we have awakened a sleeping tiger" Boy was he ever right on that call. > During the years of the WWII there were 850,000 aircraft built by all combatants before the end of the war and half of those were built in the United States. That is only part of the story. Really, living next door here in Canada and reading about the USA I saw it as a remarkable and fascinating story. As a Canadian I can that I am proud to be a neighbour and that my country is an ally of the USA. We work great together. >There is one major problem in all this: wages are not keeping up with inflation. We are all building debt to keep up. Too much money is ending up in the top 1%. It is not healthy overall. >Please, thank you for reading. I just had to write this.

I used maintain a Cat first run 10 in southern CA., later I had a first D-11, massive hand full of equipment both were massive compared to these current Cats. the 10 was scarped some years later. the D-11 I'm retired, one morning during start up, idling fine, after a half hour, the operator gives it more fuel, blows a engine oil filter seal out, I replace both filters, what we didn't know, couldn't hear it, feel it, nothing, it had thrown a rod, totally messed up my morning, the owner is there, the super asked me what was going on, I don't know as yet, we look it over, give the operator the OK, brings the engine up to speed rumbles way, maybe 50 feet there about, blows both engine oil filers out, a cloud of oil fills the air around the D-11. I dropped the OIL pan, 2 rods wrapped around the crank, that engine didn't miss a lick, acted ran like all holes firing, so said strip mining company said the engine was fresh, no idea what it cost, my boom truck had all it could do to to inch that engine out,, a few weeks later I'm putting the over haul engine back in, and of course, I'm thinking this better be good, or I'll get hell if it doesn't. It ran great. those were the days.

A d11 bulldozer has 850 Horse power and weighs over 100 tones, it weighs more than 3 fully loaded 18 wheelers. They don't show it finished in this video with the blade on and all... it's gigantic, like not much smaller than an average house big. It's the largest bulldozer in current production the world. 2 Million is a drop in the bucket compared to the operational costs of running it for the next 40 years, and how much expensive the massive mountain moving operations that use these machines are.
