1. Rolex exp2 specifically 16570 polar (GADA watch) 2. Cartier Santos 100 solely for water resistance (Dressier watch, but still versatile) 3. Tudor BB DK for diver. Super sharp and stealthy. And lastly, hunt for deals in the secondary market and you can be way below USD 24k budget. I know cause I own all of the above mentioned, and still had enough funds to snag a Panerai PAM111 😉

Do you trust a vintage watch to keep that water resistance? I think thats the only thing keeping me from buying a vintage or neo vintage. I would love to buy one but I fear that the older they get the less reliable that maybe. If you could let me know their own experiences it would be helpful.

Ask the watch shops in your area if they’re able to replace gaskets and pressure test watches. With the right parts and equipment, it’s fairly quick and easy to restore the water resistance of a watch.

A "watch collection" for the average guy is 1. Dress watch with a black leather strap. 2. Causal chronometer with a brown leather strap. 3. Classic Dive watch with a metal strap. 4. An all-black watch, because all-black makes a statement no other watch makes. 5. A tough as nails dirt watch. These 5 will cover any situation you will find yourself in. My five. 1. Cartier Tank American, black dial white hands black later strap. $5,000 2. Breitling Classic AVI Chronograph 42 P-51 Mustang $5,800 ( though the Nevada Grenchen is a great pick as well) 3. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer 42 MM with the NATO strap. (though the Squal was a great choice too). $5,600 4. Baume & Mercier Riviera Chronograph all black. $4,600, (while you dream of that all-black Submariner or Explorer II). 5. Marathon Navigator steel case with the black NATO strap $978 Total price: $21,978 + tax.

This is pushing it, but for 24k, I think you could pull off a used Breguet 5707 for around the 15k mark. Then if you can score a ~10k 5817 in either gold (that's probably a dream) or in stainless steel, I'd go with that. You have a complicated travel/dress watch at under 12mm thick with classic Breguet looks. Then you have the marine sports watch with a big date. You've got yourself covered on almsot all fronts...except the flex watch, I guess.

my IWC Pilot's Chronograph 41 (green dial, brown calfskin strap), Explorer 36, and DJ36 blue fluted-motif (fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet) amount to $23,900 in today's MSRP. Add a $100 CasiOak and that's $24k!
