This was a very fun build, and my finished cigar box guitar DOG BOWL RESONATOR, came out great. M~
@MomusFilms4 жыл бұрын
Looks great, but couldn't you have just glued the piezo on the bowl without cutting a hole? Seems an unnecessary extra step?
@SouthernFireGuitars4 жыл бұрын
@@MomusFilms Hey David, Yes, you can just glue the piezo under the bowl, I've done that on some also, but this bowl seemed to be kind of thick, so by drilling a little hole, I was able to get some piezo connection to the bowl and a little to the box top to give it a bit more sound volume.
@Crogon2 жыл бұрын
I am a bit surprised that you WANT the boards touching the dog bowl. Wouldn't it act more like a diaphragm if nothing was touching it, and resonate better? Have you tried this to see what the difference is in sound quality?

Hi: LOVE your channel! I've never made a CBG, but I spent 20+ years building custom Electrics, so I have a little basic concept. A stroke screwed me up pretty bad a few years ago so I had to stop building. Recently a heart attack did me in again. just a thought...you could've drilled a smaller hole. just enough to pull the wires through and had the piezo sandwiched between the biscuit and the bowl. no idea if it'd make a difference but i'm thinking it might.
@SouthernFireGuitars4 жыл бұрын
That may work, but the peizo disk has the 2 wires soldered to it, so its not perfectly flat, and you would see a gob of glue under the biscuit...so I don't really know, you would have to try that one. M~
@kewlbns694 жыл бұрын
@@SouthernFireGuitars you could still glue it on the bottom if you wanted to. i think string pressure would probably keep the biscuit down. also, that way you could make minor adjustments for intonation.

One of the best vids on this subject I have seen.. Wish this had existed back when I built my first ones. Going to file this in the "to be shared if someone asks how to make one on FB" file. Though I'm curious about drilling the hole to connect the piezo to the biscuit (I've never done that on the ones I've made) seems that it would almost cancel out the metallic resonance we want in metal resonators.
@SouthernFireGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael. The hole in the bowl, is smaller than the piezo disk, so its touching the metal and the wood, so I get the tingy sound of the metal, but its a more amplified tone. I like it.
