I can't believe you built the whole aviary using hand tools .... and no shoes! If I ever come to see it I'm bringing you sneakers. You did a great job!!

Hi, I want to ask what had you done to prevent the wood from rain damage?? I just purchased a small wood aviary. Since it is made out of wood, I am afraid the wood material will band or deformed after rain in April ~June, and in fall, and snow in winter. I checked some information online, but the water proof spray seems not always good as it should be.....
@MrAviary5 жыл бұрын
I bought impregnated wood which was completely submerged in this stuff, last very long maybe after 10 years I have to replace the bottom ones but the rest last very long. You can even put an extra layer of water resistant stain (also gives your aviary a nice color). However, it is still wood so it will always deform a little, I just made sure there is room for it to deform. Hope this helps. Which birds are you going to put in your aviary?
@robynmartin20264 жыл бұрын
looks fantastic, thank you for sharing, love the use of big pavers for the base. Just wondered, is your framing treated, I presume not, but it does look a bit green....? Maybe it gets painted later....I should watch more...
@MrAviary4 жыл бұрын
The wood is treated that's why it is a little greenish

Can you paint a pigeon aviary with the metal paint as just getting one built at the moment? . . This look's fab!
@MrAviary5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, finches and pigeons will, unlike for example parrots, not chew on the mesh.

What was the paint called? And where did you buy it from? And how much?
@MrAviary6 жыл бұрын
It is metallic paint hammerite. It is from a home improvement center. Only use it with birds that dont chew on the mesh. I used more than 1L. You need a lot.
@adamstv40256 жыл бұрын
Mr. Aviary can I use it for parakeets and cockatiels?
@MrAviary6 жыл бұрын
If you want to be completely safe, I wouldn't recommend it. Because parakeets and cockatiels use their beaks to climb and chew on the mesh. Therefore they may take in small quantities of the paint, which is not completely toxin free.

Beautiful aviary! What kind of wire did you use? Was it galvanized? I'm just wondering because I really want to build one for my budgies ❤️

Excuse me sir, Why do you make double layer on the roof? I can’t understand what you mention in the clip

This makes it more difficult for cats to snatch birds trough the mesh

What type of mesh did you use and how much did it end up costing for all the mesh? I'm looking into building my own aviary for my lovebirds and am just curious.
@MrAviary6 жыл бұрын
I used 12,5x12,5 mesh 0,8 mm thickness. I bought a 25 meter roll but only used roughly 20m. For lovebirds I would use a little thicker mess 1,05 mm. The cost depends on the supplier and type of mesh but I paid around 80 euros

Isn't the paint toxic to the birds especially cockatiels
@MrAviary2 жыл бұрын
For parrot and parakeet species I wouldn't recommend it
@guglielmodicarlo41394 жыл бұрын
wouldnt it be better to fix the wire mesh on the inside, rather than on the outside, so the birds will not chew the wood to much?
@MrAviary4 жыл бұрын
For parrots and parakeets, yes. However, then it is very important to cover all the edges because they are very sharp.
