BMW never really "switched from the M6 to the M8". The M6 is still their GT3 platform, and BMW just added the M8 as their GTE/GTLM platform. The M6 GT3 is even competing in the 24 hrs of Spa this weekend!

As a Lemons racer on the east coast I love this. Great series, keep up the great work! Can I ask who did your helmet? Is it custom? What's a good price range for work like that? Looks great.

Glad you asked! There is a cool story behind my helmet that I will cover soon (episode 6 perhaps). Its a Stilo ST5F designed by MDM Designs and painted by Nippy Designs. Both in the UK.

Funny story! I bought my 2001 E46 M3 in 2004 as second hand, near mint condition as a daily driver until I turned it into a full racecar (courtesy of a local race shop). Wait so you're racing this thing and you've never dyno'ed it? What group is it legal in? Every race club I know of (SCCA, NASA) you have to submit a dyno sheet before you can race (for the season).

In Canada it's bracket racing. For BMWCCA it would be C I believe. I would need to check. It's under powered for NASA. With cams and headers it would be a class contender, though.

@@WeAreTheRace I looked over the parts list and didn't see an oil sump or dry oil pump just an oil disk which seems to be an improvement to the wet sump. There was an oil pan gasket but for a dry sump you'd need a modified oil pan for the pickups. IMHO a dry sump is a must have for ensuring maximum life out of an engine used for racing. Otherwise any crank, cam, bearings related to, have a higher risk of premature wear or even catastrophic failure during a race under load.

@@danielsimpson8929 Hey Dan! Its actually just running a cooler and the disc, but not dry. It's still stock internals and minor bolts-ons. If we start adding power, we will still getting into that. I'll likely machine the axels and add a damper as well... one thing at a time. The budget was to get us rolling, now its build where I can and improve where needed. For the racing I've done it fits into the classes very well, if I do too much more I will have to do a lot more to get to the front of the next class.

@@Sadokist right on. Look forward to see this develope. Your build has me looking at other BMW engines. Seems 745Li e65 have a 4.4L v8 with dohc... not sure on the aftermarket support but a 2004 model seems to sell for pennies. Anyway thanks for responding.
