I'm so glad you had a similar emotional connection with this book. This book is like a blanket, cuddle, chessey toastie and tomatoes soup all rolled into one. But how dare you try and make me pick between Jamie, Tess and Tadgh! 😜 They're all my favourite characters.

Couldn’t agree more!!! It’s tough to pick a favorite. Also on a side note, I love that Australians and Brits call them toasties!!! So much cozier than grilled cheese. When I was working in the UK I would get a ham and cheese toastie at least once a week! So yummy!!!

I saw that you loved Is Mother Dead?! I haven’t been able to get a copy of that one yet but I am very keen to read it. I will start reading some eligible books for the 2024 international Booker soon. I will let you know if I stumble onto any good ones!

@@madeubook , it started a whole journey to Hjorth's other books. I then read Long Live The Post Horn. That one sneaks up on you. And I'm right now finishing Will & Testament. Wow. I think she may be a Marmite type of author. Eligible books for the Intl prize - that sounds like a fun project. I can't wait to hear what you might discover!

I didn’t see this book getting enough love either! It was a simple book on the surface but I think it’s beauty is in the emotional rollercoaster the reader goes through. I will also say that shortly before reading this one, I read Unmasking Autism by Devon Price so I was in full-on mama bear mode for Jamie. Haha
