How to build a cheap Crystal Wyvern trap | ARK: Survival Evolved | Building Tips

Sick of expensive crystal wyvern traps that don't work well? This cheap trap will solve all your problems! Works for regular Crystal Wyverns, Crystal Wyvern Heirs and a variant metal version can be build for Alpha Blood Crystal Wyverns (2:02 the triangle roofs are placed in different positions).

Pro tip: placement of this style of trap is everything. You need to be able to kite the wyvern straight in, as there isn’t much margin of error. Also placing it on flat ground and not near a cliff is also helpful to keep it from escaping and make shooting it easier. It’s also advisable to build a ladder so you can get to the wyvern more easily since sometimes they fall asleep in a difficult position. As for the cliff/level ground thing, I think it has something to do with the AI pathing. Generally when wyverns flee they fly parallel to the ground, so the ground around the trap influences the angles that the wyvern will orient itself in. Whenever I’ve used traps on cliffs or sloped ground, wyverns sometimes escape as much as half the time, but almost never when the ground is flat

Thanks for the video, and to anyone planning to make this make sure you face away from the direction you plan to come from with a wyv chasing you as you build, because i learned the hard way that the direction you set the pillars determines the direction of the triangle roof which determines what side of the structure you can place the hatch frame and essentially determines what direction the whole thing faces, when i first started to build mine (With metal) i built it while looking towards the wyv area and it made it backwards and i had to tear it apart and rebuilt it facing the other way

They've definitely changed AI on wyvs and they don't get stuck in traps like these anymore unless you're using a tek suit. They get stuck for about 3 seconds and somehow have a crazy good turning radius to get out

This trap is 100% perfection But just so anyone knows the wyverns are still aggro after you take their crystals and they wake up and they sometimes escape. A good way to fix this (although a little more expensive) is to put more hatch frames coming off the top. 3 is enough. They wyverns can only escape if they are not aggro

Made the exact setup and finally got down the timing to get the wyvern caught but was running into the same issue as others. Wyvern would just turn and escape so I put 2 more triangle roofs on the top(essentially making it a "ramp". And now when the wyvern turns around it's completely trapped. I've had one trapped for days now

All crystal wyvern are passive tame so you can walk right up to one with crystals tame it without aggro

It's partly to do with them not flying down often but mainly to do with their poor turning radius.

I had the same problem, tested with several Crystal Wyvern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGXQc3epbrqdoKc But after I added Stone Triangle Roofs at left and right to the upper hatchframe it works with all Wyvern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGXQc3epbrqdoKc

I wasn't having an issue with the wyverns getting out once they were hooked with the original design, but I'd occasionally have them slip out before they really got tangled. Adding two stone ramps to the top frame made entangling them a lot more consistent. I tried with triangle roofs, but there was no foundation support that high. Stairs/ramps didn't have that issue because they're magic.

​ @captain fatdog Pro tip: Don't dismiss what multiple people are saying because it really does not work anymore.... if you are using S+ structures. Using the default structures it still works fine but it will not work with S+ structures. That's why people are reporting issues with it.

Crystal Wyverns can be passive tamed by feeding it a primal crystal and it only takes 1 or sometimes 2 if really high level. They are also docile until attacked.

My favorite thing you ever made is still the EJECTOR RAFT. I'm not sure if it even works anymore. But after I watched that video. I build ejectors all over our server. Like at every single base.
