We moved to Colorado from IL and gosh do we miss Menards 😅😢. Thanks for posting this info. Hoping to have my coup and run done by spring this year!

So I've watched all three videos... from your repurposing the shed into a chicken coop all the way to finishing the run❤. I've just moved up north in Indiana and though we seldom get colder the -5 -8 I really needed ALL this info. I happen to have an old shed similar to yours so I now know what to do. my runs have always been kind of boxing and I was intimidated by tresses you two made it so plain and easy. So this go around the girls 🐔 will have a dryer & more attractive structure with stronger roofing to hold the snow I've already ordered the plastic to go around the run. Question ❓ how did you make the huge grain feeder you have? I will see if I find a video on it. Anyway thank you so much I was feeling overwhelmed not sure just how to transform the shed into a good coop and now I am so motivated knowing just what to do 🙏

I'm so glad to hear that my videos have been helpful for you!! The grain feeder is super simple! Just buy a big garbage can and then buy this kit: geni.us/AmazonChxFeederPorts You've got this!

This is great. I've been buying the self assembly steel runs each year and they either end up crushed under the snow or blown away. Because they are thin metal once they are broken that's it. I need to build something like this. For me the most difficult thing would be getting the initial poles in straight, and probably measuring everything to minimise cutting and waste! Fortunately the only predators here are eagles, but the crows in the nearby trees deal with them!

Greetings from the Brainard Lakes area. I am about to build my coop and run, and you gave me some ideas for the roof. I am looking at getting my birds this week and do the build while they are in the brooder. Thank you.

I LOVE your chicken coop videos! We are going to convert our 8 x 12 garden shed into a chicken coop and build a covered run. It gets quite cold in northern Michigan, too!! QUESTION: How large is your covered run? What was approximate build cost? Thanks!!!❤
@thehomesteadingrd

Exciting!!!! I believe it’s 12x16 and I’m not sure about the cost - sorry! We repurposed a lot of materials that we already had on hand. Good luck!

Do you remove the plastic during the summer? Thank you
@thehomesteadingrd
@thehomesteadingrd Жыл бұрын
We do so that it cools down in the summer and allows for good airflow. We can usually re-use the plastic for 2-3 years if we're careful about taking it down (and secure it using furring strips).

I know roosting bars outside the coop encourages chickens to roost out side the coop…..and raccoons can reach through and grab them… this is a fact….lol. Ask me how I know…
