I've been looking at Mini splits for a while and am sold on the EG4's. I'm redoing a 2-section garage/carport right now. Just finished walling in the carport with 2x6s and will redo the other side's 2x4s into 2x6s. So, 500 sq/ft and planning on their EGR-9K as it has a SEER2 rating of 29.5. I hemmed and hawed about the 12k as you guys got but Since I'll be doing 16" of blown in insulation in the ceiling, I figure it will be fine for working in. We do get down to the teens here in Pa. Very rarely single digits. I really can't order one yet till I get 2x6 insulated walls up on the other side as that would be the wall I'll mount it on. And floor storage space is a premium right now. Ugh! I bundle up right now still working on the inside and outside as our now warm days are in the mid 30s. But I'm getting there. I really liked your videos, especially this one showing your experience on figuring it out as you go as I'll be bumbling thru mine myself. Thank you.

Major flaw on your placement. These units should not be placed down on the ground. They must be placed ~24" high to prevent snow from causing blockages and freeze ups

Did the refrigerant lines not need to be purged, or did that part get edited out? Great video though!

They are already sealed and evacuated so no need to do that for this kit thankfully

Look into a hyper heat kit if they have it for the EG4 units, with the hyper heat kit the system will make usable heat down into the negative temps. For an example Mitsubishi has that feature and they will put out great heat well into the negative teens, it's basically a shield that pulls heat off the compressor and sends it through the coil kinda simulating a warmer outdoor temp. And since a heat pump gets its heat from the outdoor air the warmer the air the better the heat output it gets

Wow! That sounds really neat, we’ll have to look into that

So for other preservation ideas: 2 of my favorites are: 1. Onion jam. Fill crockpot with finely chopped onions, salt the top, add about 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar. Can add 1/2-1 cup water so onions don’t scorch the bottom. Let it go overnight on low. Stir in the morning. If they aren’t browned then keep them going until browned & cooked down. Then can into 1/2 pints. It’s so delicious! Add to burgers, tacos, anything you like! 2. French onion soup, the easy & lazy way 😅 This is a canning recipe, so get your 1 quart jars ready. Fill jars 3/4 the way with onions (loosely, don’t overpack them), then top off with beef broth (I always make homemade bone broth for this, but you can make meat broth or use store bought broth too). Then since it’s just onion loosely packed with broth, then you can for broth times which i can’t remember off the top of my but I think it is 20 or 25 minutes. It’s fast & easy, though, & a quick search on the internet will you give you accurate broth time for the pressure canner.

In MN too. I'd recommend Daikin or GREE units. I have both at two northern properties (Cass Co. and Pine Co.) and they work great. The heat pump is key. I'd recommend the Daikin for this however because the low temp threshold is a lot better. The GREE unit has more WiFi capabilities, but the the low heat temp is 61F, which can be a bit warm depending on the application. A DIY installation isn't that easy. You need 220amp power with an exterior disconnect in a box and the line-set length is a factor. The bracket placement and line-set hole is easy, but there is more to it.

Oh gosh, I think that the cloth drop cloths from Walmart that are about 9x12 or so mounted on the ceiling with rods turned upside down would be awesome. The drop cloths are a natural slubbed cotton color. They are great and inexpensive so you could get the proper size without spending a fortune.

@@thehomesteadingrd I was thinking that you can get mount on the ceiling tracks for curtains. I don't know of a source, though. They are a metal track and the curtain clips slide inside of them. They look very luxurious with floor to ceiling drapery.

Nice video! You might want to check out Crosstalk Solutions' channel. He did a video on shooting WiFi through the woods. Turns out you have to go to 900 MHz as 2.4 and 5 GHz won't penetrate. Now that you have fiber run, it might be good as a back-up. And it might be affected by rain. kzbin.info?search_query=crosstalk+solutions+get+wi-fi+to+outbuilding+through+wooded+area
