How to build a cross cut sled at any budget!

Building a cross cut sled for your table saw is almost a like woodworkers right of passage.
There are plenty of videos out there showing you how to build the ultimate one but in this video I hope to show you that you can build them at any budget and scale up the features as you can afford.
*Calculations*
Error per unit or EPU (mm or inch)
((A - B) / 4) / Length = EPU
EPU x distance from pivot = total distance to move the fence
positive (+) number = move the fence away from yourself
negative (-) = move the fence towards yourself

Like cross cut sleds, workbenches are the same to me, I have built multiple units over the years and have not really liked any of them. Also I really like the way you explained the 5 cut method. BYW - You were using some kind of drill stop in this video, could you tell me what it is called? Thank you, Sir.

Thanks Dennis If drill stop you are referring to is the drill that countersinks a hole while drilling it, I wouldn't recommend the one in that video, I have since bought this one and its much better - amzn.to/3UmxOs8

Sweet video mate. I have a question. Every video that I have watched with the 5 cut method shows how to calculate the error. But everyone says to redo it to check and nearly always it’s never perfect. I know we are talking hairs here but being a roof carpenter and always working with angles I think the pivot point is wrong. In a perfect world I think it should be pivoting in the middle of the fence right where the blade strikes the front fence. Would like to see if this works better. What are your thought? 😊

Good vid although, I think you moved your fence the wrong way. I've done this myself & I had to move the fence back toward myself from a positive number which, I subsequently verified with another five cut test.

loved the fact you screwed the runners on with a hand held screwdriver, that is classy and saves a lot of mistakes that can be made using a cordless drill, don't get me wrong I think the cordless drill is one if the best tool ever

Love your work. What is the paste wax you used on the underside of the sled please, and would you use the same on your table saw surface?

Thanks :) Its called Traditional Wax by u beaut polishes but I think it may be an New Zealand/Australia thing www.carbatec.co.nz/product/14609-trad-wax-neutral-250ml I have actually started using it on my jointer and it works really well

I have a Carbatec scroll saw I picked up for a bargain from a cash converters auction, obviously had no idea of its true worth. Nice but of gear...

Hey George, the only stop blocks I have purchased are the ones you see in the video and I also bought a Katz Mosus stop block for my router table I’ve got no complaints about any of them 😊

Reviewing the video, it does look like it, all I can say is maybe I shifted it back because as you can see when its all screwed together, it slides nicely in the miter slots

Divide by 4 assumes a square piece, but the piece in this video is not a square.

No, divide by 4 because there are 4 corners (4 angles). Although the measurements are done in mm, the adjustments affect the angles, the goal being to get the fence 90° to the blade.
