Actually looking into forming hoses atm. I found that hoses are shoved onto mandrel bent tubing of the shape they need to form to and then shoved into a autoclave to heat up and form to those tubes where after they cool they retain those forms. Looks like they keep them at 300°+ for 20 minutes. Also see a guy bending his hoses with copper tube coil bender and a heat gun! I’m trying that method as we speak… wish me luck! 😂

I just formed my hose end from 5/8 ID to 3/4 ID. I radiused the end of a 3/4" metal rod, used some dialectric grease, pushed the 5/8 hose over it about 1" deep. Placed that in an oven at 335 deg. for about 30 min and let cool slowely. It stayed formed. Working on tight 90 degree. Uh, don't do it in the house in the little womans oven or you might not get dinner, or anythig else. Do it outside or where you have lots of fresh air.

Informative video. ...BUT I laughed so hard, when you used the carpenter square and black marker (on a black hose). Comedic gold. Thanks!!!!

No way for that money. I got a 9 inch heater hose for my 2004 Toyota Camry at Home Depot, which runs from the top of the manarfol to a breather at the other end for $7.00, don't know why they call it heater house, but works great.

Just watched another hose video. For the clamps in the middle he used a shrink clamp from gates. Like industrial strength shrink wrap tubing, made specifically to be used as a permanent hose clamp. Very tidy for something like this.

thanks for the video! very useful. what about silicone hoses? they are quite common and cheap compared to OEM rubber ones.

In days past on semis and industrial equipment there would be bent tubes and stright hose so ya only needed a couple rolls of hose to be prepared to fix any of them ...but then value engineering took over

OUCH!!!! $140.00 for a hose. Lots of good information in this video. Marking that hose is a very good idea. That is a good idea with the dish soap and it makes good sense. Looks like you ended up making a good hose.
@TheEclecticHandyman

Yes it was nuts the cost and trust me I did NOT want to buy it. However it being so rare and the nature of the collector car, I had to do it, and learned my lesson to be more careful. Originally it was like a $30 hose I think. Thanks for watching Rita!

Why not just find yourself a nice steel braded hose from the hardware store...you'll only need to use coupling at the endpoints and it will also look much cleaner.

In this case, I was trying to stay as original looking in the engine bay as possible due to the nature of this particular car. However your recommendation could also work as well. Thanks for watching!

Good info, but you should redo this video with 10% of the talking. Should be like 5-minutes long, tops.

This is silly, use a piece of soft copper tubing for the main part of the hose ( fill the copper with sand to make the bends) then attach short piece of rubber hose and 2 hose clamps to make the connections... That is how a "handyman" does it!
@TheEclecticHandyman
@TheEclecticHandyman Жыл бұрын
Yeah several ways to do it I suppose. I wouldn't be apt to see copper tubing under the hood in my scenario as I was going for same/same looking with the full rubber hose. However I'm sure in a bind that way you mentioned would work as well.
@kenbarnett9415
@kenbarnett9415 Жыл бұрын
You can also use aluminum tubing if you want a more factory look; or Sleeve the cooper tubing with a rubber hose, then fill the copper with sand, shape the hose, etc. Be sure to leave enough rubber tubing exposed to make the hose clamps connections. A 5/8" ID will not make much of a difference, considering the Rad tank connects are approx., 1/2" ID. I know the video has been up for awhile: and you have already made your hose to look and fit the way you wanted, I am just offering a cheaper and simpler way to do the job for those of us that use KZbin videos for quick directions.

Overall good info but man you've got to work on your editing. Repeating the same things over and over again, way too much exposition. 4 minutes just to start to get to the meat of it. It's a video on building a heater hose not an epic saga (repetitive one at that).
