Is not a good idea to have the archer spread so much. if they need to turn to 70degrees for example, they will keep their formation and it will take a longer time to turn compared to a archer unit deployed in a more compact way Neither should the front line be a very thin line, because they need to be able to withstand a charge, sometimes from cavalry. The thicker the frontline is, the less chance the enemy charge has to break through the formation. Some good deployment formations are the checkerboard formation and the double chevron formation
