Great video and easy to follow..I hope. Lol ..Currently using a mat from rawhide. A little rough on joints. Looking to make one like yours and place it into my current mat. Of course question... plastic end pieces are 3/4 " thick but foam tape runners are 1" thick. ?? Am I missing 1/4" somewhere. Probably a joke in there as well. Thank you again for you quality videos.
@PixelGolf22 күн бұрын
The end pieces are 3/4” and the foam is 1”, but the 1/4” difference is negligible and with the adhesive under the turf and the end pieces as well as the velcro, it ends up being about perfect. Also, you can just use 3/4" wood for the end pieces as well and save some money.

What dimension did you use for your own putting mat? what length do you recommend cutting the Lexan to?

Hello, The dimensions of my putting mat is 10' wide by 14' long. I recommend going with 12"x30" for the hitting insert.

Fantastic video! I just started my simulator build process and have taken quite a bit away from watching your videos. I'm hoping you might be able to shed some light on the turf material and replacement process. I plan to order a little extra putting turf so I can use the excess to make a hitting strip that matches the rest of the floor. Have you found that the putting turf works well as a hitting strip cover? I'm guessing it doesn't last super long, so how often do you swap the old turf for new on the hitting strip? Is replacement as simple as peeling off the old and gluing down the new?
@PixelGolf3 ай бұрын
Hello, sorry for the late reply... The putting turf works great and the Money Putt is like 3 months in and still looks awesome! My last affordable putting turf needed replacement every 3 months. It is as simple as peeling it off and gluing on a new piece.

@PixelGolf4 ай бұрын
Thank you! I've tried the Fiberbuilt, great mat for joint pain, but I dint like how easy the club went through the ball... This was years ago though, so they may have made some revisions. Never tried the SigPro Softy. If they see htis, hopefully they send me one to test, lol.

@@PixelGolf I understand. I ended up buying everything you did for the computer build so I could follow step by step. Now, I may also still this hitting insert idea. Just so I am totally certain, I need the underlayment to be 1" total in thickness and then the turf height doesn't matter as I am using that as the hitting turf, correct? I am using the TFD Putting Elite which is 7/16" thick if that matters.. Thanks for all of your help!

Just what I was looking for sir. Nice info. Question, a link in the description for the high density board is 3/4. Is that correct? Just about to finish up my SIM. Really looking forward to it.
@PixelGolf5 ай бұрын
Yes, if you are using 1” thick gym mat it’s perfect. The extra 1/4” is made up by the thickness of the lexan and adhesives used as well as the Velcro.
@jackc13375 ай бұрын
Ah! Ok thanks for that.
@kevinjung4425 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the info and the update. Quick question from your original build video you were using a putting turf you got from your local turf supplier, did you switch the turf for the entire flooring? If so what were the reasons you switched? From the links it shows you went with the SIG Money Putt Turf.
@PixelGolf5 ай бұрын
Yes, I switched from the Supreme Putt I sourced locally, to the Money Putt Turf for the whole surface. The main reason I switched is because after 3 years the turf was showing wear where my feet were and the hitting insert would show green residue on my irons, not terrible though and easily wipes off... With this new turf, no residue and it looks great after 3 months on the turf and insert!
@kevinjung4425 ай бұрын
@@PixelGolf Thanks for the quick response. I will essentially be building out the same type of setup you have. One additional question: how far from the screen do you hit? standard 10 feet? or more?

I had a commercially manufactured hitting insert similar in construction to what you have described here. I don't know what type of plastic material they used for the actual board, but after a few weeks it started to curl up a bit on the edges. What has your experience been with the material you have used?
@PixelGolf22 күн бұрын
I can tell you after years of using, the board has never done that. Stick with Lexan.

When going on top of a carpeted room, are the gym mats heavy enough or would a wood frame be better to put down first?
@PixelGolf3 ай бұрын
I actually helped a viewer who put them right on the carpet and he said they worked great, though I don’t have any first hand experience… You could also try and then add a wood underlay later.

How does hitting on this foam feel? Would you say it gives a good fairway feel? Do you get much truf shock? It seems like this set up might be really hard on your wrists.

The plastic board piece you linked is 3/8in thick. Is that the correct thickness? I’m assuming after you add the gorilla tape and Velcro that adds to 1” total thickness?
@PixelGolf3 ай бұрын
Hello, yes 3/8" is correct. Using the 3/4" plastic risers, tape and turf puts me right about 1.5" thick when it's all said and done.

I am curious, why just 3 of the 1 inch soft foam strips? Would it not be better to have the entire board between the end pieces covered in the soft foam?
@PixelGolfАй бұрын
With Lexan board, it really doesn’t seem necessary. You can certainly try the whole area with foam, it would just cost more money.

I know this may be a stupid question but why have an insert when you can just use a hitting mat ? 😊

I personally like the insert option as it looks cleaner and doesn't take up as much space, which leaves room in the area for putting in my case... It's also easier and more affordable to replace.
