I was tempted to build my own before but I'M DOING IT NOW! I have a question, because my mind doesn't seem to want to shut down. What would be the downside of using cv joints instead of universal joints? Seems like the timing would be less crucial and more contact area to apply the torque through.. I've been mulling it for a while and I can only think of maybe a few house power.(?)
@mountainsgarage2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The CV shafts, at least OEM style, are definitely weaker.

What part of Maine do you live in? I use to live in Northeast Maine, many years ago. I enjoyed this video! I went from a 2 piece steel drive shaft to a one piece aluminum and finally to a carbon fiber. Having them all I can say that the carbon fiber is easily my favorite because of how quiet it is, not to mention strong and less likely to vibrate at high speeds. I liked the aluminum too but they were very loud. The two piece steel that came with the car is excellent for extremely high speeds but not trust worthy with extreme horsepower/torque.

Do you ever take runouts on the tube before you weld everything up? Balance is an issue.

Where do you order your Spicer parts from bud ? Was it Traction there in Maine or someplace online? Really like your channel bud very interesting. And as a Yankee living in the south it's a treat listening to a Mainer talk. I'm from Madison Maine but moved to Louisiana 13 years ago to make a living. I miss Maine but don't miss what the politicians have done to the state. Keep up the good work sir, I look forward to seeing your new videos. Even though you've contracted that LSitis affliction 😂

I have purchased from Jegs, EBay, and Drivetrain America. Lately wherever I can find it. Strange Engineering has billet weld yokes and that is where this tube came from. The next shaft might get the billet ends! Thanks for watching! I also have small and big blocks. I used to put a big block in everything!

I have a non locking RPC dipstick that seems to be popping out of the tube for my turbo 400. I can’t see why it’s falling out other than vibration. Really gets me mad with the fluid I see on the firewall and possible issues with it being open while driving. If I were to go with a locking Lokar should the “full” line still be like your earlier uploads where you place a screwdriver against the pan and that’s the line? Many times I’m not sure mine is full while hot and in gear but I assumed a little bit accumulated above the pan line? Thank you
@mountainsgarage2 жыл бұрын
I use the Proform 66182 locking dipstick, BTE sells one just like it, probably others. It fits with the flexplate shield as well. I won’t use a Lokar, most don’t have anything holding them in the transmission and the fill hole is too small. Most come miss adjusted out of the box, but yes the fill line is even with the pan rail inside.
@timweb15102 жыл бұрын
@@mountainsgarage thank you, I did read questionable reviews on the lokar. It’s on a sbf foxbody and I don’t believe I can get a hard line/non flexible tube in there. Sorry, I should have mentioned that

I don’t, but you could. The tig welded chrome moly tubing in lighter and more precision than a mild steel shaft mig welded shaft, that helps. If I ever have one vibrate, I will build another. Hasn’t happened yet, 180mph.
