Been an on/off longboarder for years, I have issues kicking off (old TBI) and I've tried the big kahuna stick but nothing really met my needs so I've been watching people in my town board and feeling jealous (once I get any sort of momentum my old skills kick right in) until today I stumbled across your channel and I've decided to learn to use the tools in this video to make my own board someday. Thanks for the inspiration

I built an "almost" long board (it looks liike a surfboard). Probably only 40" long, with a Hobby King 6373 ($70) and a 150 amp "mega something" speed control that was like $60. I bought the parts 6 years ago, I assembled them 2 years ago with a nice set of trucks that fit a motor mount I EBayd for like $20. Bought 2 6000mha 3 cells to run in series, ya know to start small. Other people running 10 cell. It was SO FUCKING FAST AND TORQUIE IT WAS UNRIDEABLE! I dropped down to a 4 cell 7000 mha (I'm running lipo's.WAY more amps) and it's way rideable but super touchy throttle and tops out at 14mph (at 33% power). The torque is NUTS! You gotta do your math and research. I'm moving to a 10 cell pack but with a speed control that can't hit the mass amps I was with my last. That should reduce torque (seriously it was overkill, it would actually do wheelies. Throw your ass right off the back) and increase top speed. Smooth out the ride. It's ALL about math amigo. Don't be scared, it's all just plug and play. Cheers!

Sick vid! 2 things, make sure to cover the battery status wires with hot glue or heat shrink you dont want your wires to short and your battery exploding under you. Also I also made a board and drilled 3 holes for each phase of the esc but steering started scratching the wires where the drilled holes were which can make them bare over time. As I said otherwise a really sick video !

you see if i wanted to make a 4x4 electric skateboard (i,e, one motor on each wheel.) would i just need to buy 4 x ESU that you use?
@DIYesk8Builders
@DIYesk8Builders 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, although if you were to make one now I would recommend getting 2 Flipsky dual 6.6 Plus VESC's and connect them over can. The plus version is made to work in 4WD. I will say though that 4WD is way overkill and will just reduce the range of your board. 2WD with 63mm is already super powerful

I'm probably going to build this one but I have a question when I use the sensor wire from the motor is will start up smoothly right? And do you have an idea of an acceleration compared to a Genesis tomahawk sorry if I'm asking to much. Thanks
@DIYesk8Builders
@DIYesk8Builders 5 жыл бұрын
I have never run any motors with a sensor wire in FOC mode but from what I have heard it is a much smoother start up and is much quieter. I have no idea how it compares to a genesis tomahawk. The acceleration is not that strong on a genesis; I can floor the remote on high mode and not get thrown off. I'm sure with a diy board such as this, the acceleration is much stronger even with FOC mode and sensor wires. In the VESC tool you can also change how strong you want the acceleration to be so its very customizable. I hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask more questions!

@DIYesk8Builders

I mean you probably could, I tried to but the motor mount has a slight lip so the wire bends weirdly around it and I didn't want them bending that way. Even with that it still a little far away from the enclosure so I'd have to make the extensions anyways.

Why don't you just use a dual motor ESC wouldn't that be alot easier ??
@DIYesk8Builders
@DIYesk8Builders 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah the dual ESC's are much simpler but I already had two VESC's before starting to build it so I figured that I would use them.

28MPH and about 12-14 miles riding very aggressively. Someone riding more slowly could probably get around 15-17 miles

how much is the total cost of this build??
@mxcheto
@mxcheto 5 жыл бұрын
DIY esk8 Builders 1 month ago From $1,000-1,200, we got every part on Black Friday/cyber Monday so it was much cheaper. Also, the deck was relatively cheap, only $40.

I wouldn't trust a battery that lists power as "360Wh"... that's capacity. MBoards you can do better ⚡⚡⚡

The deck actually snapped on me, probably from shaving off too much of the back. I replaced it with the bottlenose top mount deck from skate shred and now its great again.
