About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.

I'm on Allison's side about beautifying the farm. To have something aesthetically pleasing is important. It draws you outside to be part of nature in a relaxing mode, not just work. You need Some grass, less mud maybe some gravel walkways for when you get that mud season.. You need more fencing that looks cohesive. While it may be for different animals it should look similar. Use a color scheme. Create a nice fire pit sitting area for you and Allison to enjoy together outside. Most every farm has an outside area for entertaining to watch the sunset, cook, sit around the fire and drink some wine or beer. Maybe a nice swing to relax on hung from some 6x6 posts and cross beam. String some Edison lights.

Morgan, you do have a plan, actually, many plans. And you do see them through, perhaps at a slower pace than Jess and Jeremiah's. This is not a bad thing -- in time you will achieve your dreams. Hang in there and keep up the pace that works for you. BTW, your farm is YOUR farm and will never look like another farm. It has its own beauty and function. Sometimes we can get stuck in a rut trying to emulate others. Your farm is becoming of Allison and you, not others. Good luck!

Yes - definitely have to take into consideration you are currently a one-man team that has been working part-time at it for the past 5 years, whereas they have been working full time as a pair for almost 8 years and had onsite help the last 2-3 years for the larger infrastructure elements of the gardens. They may have paid them, but they also had quite a few men come into to help them last summer to remove all old/original fencing and reconfigure/set up new, plus so much more to prep for living on the property so they could ramp up as quickly as possible. Hopefully, Jess and Miah will do an interview with their neighbor sometime to talk about his feelings about how much they have accomplished since he sold it to them. He is very supportive of what they are doing.

I retired from the corporate life 5 years ago. After 18 years of raising alpacas by myself, I'm tired. I have decided to slowly gear down (currently have 25) and do what really makes me happy. Keep a few 'lifers', play with fiber, but mainly, expand my gardens and be more self-sufficient. Hope to get a new shop this year, so I can get organized and find all my tools. Hoophouse greenhouse to garden through the winter (I'm in Texas). Raised garden beds (to keep the free-range chickens out for the most part). Time to start seedlings. Full moon yesterday, so time for potatoes. But, in the plan are patios and sitting areas where I can sit and enjoy my herb and rose gardens and watch the chickens. And, the rod and reel needs to be restrung. I have been here 12 years and still haven't fished in my own 3/4 acre pond. Lots of bass in it.

@@leannemori9688 Two of my 4'x8' are 2' tall, made with sheets of tin. It keeps them out for the most part, but I do use orange contractor fencing draped over them when I first put out plants. They have plenty of space to roam, so they really only mess with my garden plants when I'm digging around. They know I'll throw them grub worms, and follow me around. Fresh dug dirt is fair game to them.

I think the way your farm works is more revolving around love, compasion and warmth to the animals under your care. If I ever ran a farm I would try to do it how you have :)

Kinda cool to see someone so close to their cows. I used to go to an agriculture school and the cows there were treated very much like "products". They had automatic milking machines (so students didn't often get to actually milk the cows...we just attached the milking machine and removed it later...) and the calves were removed from their mother at birth and bottle-fed with scrap-milk, rawmilk or powdered milk. The cows were also in boxes most of the time... but eventually they were switched to free-range as the laws in our country changed.

It's interesting how different people are to me. When she started milking and said it takes 30 minutes a day my first through was NO WHY SO MUCH TIME DAILY! Then she admitted how she likes the routine as a part of her daily chores. I suppose running a farm requires the value set that values that type or routine. I watch these videos for fun.

Seeing good dog Gabe was the clue for me. Morgan, your channel comforts, educates, and entertains, whether your content is sourced at GSF, or away. These collabs are supremely enjoyed. Allison, your smart farmer guy's roadtrips for R&D and friendly networking with other great "Toobers" is sure to bring rich rewards to the both of you, and to those "purposes" at that wonderful farm.

Hey there Morgan. That’s my first comment at all on your channel ( i had too) ! But actually i watch all videos. The reason for commenting is that your farm is charming and good too! It’s actually my goal to do something like yours. Of course you have to go to places like these and perfect your farm, however I don’t think your farm is ugly. 1) Remember you bought an old barn and house and brought to that state where it’s comfortable for animals there. 2) Listen to her! She said it took them 8 YEARS to come to this state of mind. 3) i wanna make this part less upsetting, they are fully committed to this like whole family, you know what i mean?! 4) yes it’s been couple of years of you in the farm BUT all this time you have been working in day job too, sooooo…. keep us happy with developing and positivity buddy, and then we take that positivity back from you ;)

We moved from the city to the country 2 years ago and are actively working on changing it over to a farm. We are the same as you… we have a plan for the big picture, and now it is a matter of getting a more clear vision on how to get there. This Spring, we will be doing a KZbin collaboration with @canadianpermaculturelegacy so he can help us start our own food forest and reevaluate how we can make some small changes to have our farm run more efficiently and regeneratively. I love the idea of making a goals video. Can’t wait to see where our journey takes us, and to continue watching yours as well. Thanks for continuing to be a huge inspiration!

As someone who is still going through college, I love seeing your content. The world tries to outline a pretty standardized path to success when success is also what makes you happy and what brings meaning to your life. Your videos have brought joy to my life and it's wonderful seeing how you have managed to find success and sustainability doing what you love. I love animals, and your motto of giving them a good life with one bad day opened my eyes to the ethical angle of raising animals for their meat, especially seeing your own passion and love for your animals. As I figure out my future, your videos truly are becoming a sort of guiding perspective, no matter how much you feel like you may not have everything planned out. Truly you're a role model to me, and keep inspiring me. Thank you for letting us take a glimpse into your journey! I can definitely say it's been helping mine.

Your closing, I 100% get it. We just bought a property in neighboring Barnet, only 2 acres, but just knowing that I eventually want a small English cottage garden adjacent to an even smaller vegetable patch makes me so happy. I'd also like to design an outdoor lounging area with enough room to dance in front of a toasty fire. I envision our small farmhouse land as a stage to put into plans for future weddings for my kids. That's the dream anyway. I look forward to start building on these ideas... and hopefully vlog my experience seeing them through.

Finding what makes my dream special to me is the key and then make goals to support the dream. It's like she said- for the most part their farm revolves around the garden- the garden is the dream. Is my dream farm to raise beef cattle, or breed dogs or make wool for weaving, or make great cheese? Once I've discovered that- I can start finding what I need to do on the farm that supports it. Morgan, I have been learning from you and many others....I hope this unsolicited advice is well received....if you want to make a drastic one-hit beautification of the farm, paint the barn. It is a massive billboard as you drive in or walk out the door. Paint it and it will be a visual win. Sure, repairs are needed, etc. Drop some coin into a few gallons of barn paint and you will win over Allison desire for some beauty. One hubby to another. Luv ya, Bro!!!

Probably because I watched a run of several of their videos recently, but about 6 seconds in during the walk out to the first field is when I knew you were at Roots & Refuge.

I this Jess emphasized a very good point - they haven't built the farm in 6 months. It was 8 years of learning at the previous place, so now they can go full speed with their vision and experience into here :) and that vision and the way there is just different for everyone...

LOL as soon as the barn was in the shot I knew where you were! It helps that I have seen Jess's video with you in it but I would say 2 seconds in!
