Thanks very much for such a detailed video. Lots of good info nuggets shared throughout. Surprisingly, this is one of the only vids I found where a wood gate was built in the fence cavity. Tons of videos show the gate being built on the ground and hung later. This is definitely a superior method. Thanks again!

Thanks! It's our personal preference. It's easier to get the angle correct. If it's a square (level) gate, I'd say either method is just as easy

Also instead of taking off the whole gate Just to cut the bottom I use a multi tool bro and cut em in place while the gate is still in place works great man and saves a lot of time 🙏🏽 keep it up man and the awesome work

We do that occasionally but it's easier on the back, to take it off for us- and is easier to get a clean cut everytime. Thanks for the comment!

Great video man only thing I would do different on the rip picket is cut the other top side on into a dog ear so it would match the other dog ear pickets

We usually try to put the two pieces together so it looks like one picket, or do what you said. Depends on how wide the gap is

Have you ever racked a pre built 8ft wide 6 ft high fence panel to adjust for slope?

I have not, I haven't ever actually used pre built panels. I'd assume that to rack it, you'd need a panel that only has 3 nails per picket, dead in the center of each rail. If not, the nails would hinder your adjustments or just rip the pickets

Great video, very few videos on how to build gates on a slope. How would you go about this if the homeowner wanted a double gate rather than a single gate? I have a thirteen foot stretch on the side of my house that is on a 13 degree rise towards my house, and I wanted to put a double gate rather than a single to allow my truck through. It is roughly ten feet total, two five foot sections. I'm thinking that I will have to double up with two metal posts on either side to compensate for the lack of fencing and the weight that the second gate section adds. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

On a double gate, we go to 6x6x12's set 3-4 ft in the ground. Usually holds the weight fine. For the double, its highly recommended for the gate to square and level. If not, the upper door will not operate correctly. As a homeowner, this may be fine for you, to just accept that you'll have to take the door off the hinges to use the gate fully. (The lower door will operate fine) Another option is to split the opening 3/7 , or 4/6 , (instead of 5 ft and 5 ft). The smaller the upper door is, the better chance it has. It all depends on the slope. 13 deg. is pretty aggressive. Does the ground slope in/out of the gate? (If the ground slopes 13 deg. towards the house, does it also slope towards the road?

Why put hinges on the low side? I’m in the process of doing this and I was going to put them on the high side. No particular reason. Just never did this before.

Hard to explain without a diagram- but hinges on low side will make the latch side way off the ground when opened. Hinges on high side will just run the latch side into the ground when you try to open it. Great question! I'll see if I can make a short or something explaining this
