Of all the defenses I've ever tried, this has been the most effective. I also built guard towers behind my stake walls that put me well out of range of rocks and boulders thrown by Greydwarves and Trolls respectively. Also some enemies fall into the trench and become trapped. Like shooting fish in a barrel. I finish them off with archery then just go collect all the stuff that fell in.

There are a lot of "flattening" videos, but one thing I miss is some ideas on "accessing" your new home i.e. crossing the moat safely, but not allowing critters in. I made a ramp (L-shift with the hoe for that smoothe gradient!) followed by a "drawbridge" made of low set stacked doors. Of course a troll will smash the bridge, but it is fairly easy to repair.

Not sure if you already do this or not. But when you try to raise the level of a significantly large area with stone, the best way to save as much stone as possible is by adding the new raised section just on the edge of the highest point you are at, instead of in the "center". Because that will mean that half the new raised section will raise the edge area by the normal amount, but then the other half that sticks out over the edge will raise the bottom ground all the way up to the top edge. Just stand by the edge, pull the curser towards you until the circles pop up onto the ledge you are at, and press to raise. It works for the corner edges as well. Hopefully I explained that in a way that makes sense. XD And the cost will be the same, because it does not matter if the ground is 1 meter below the top edge, or 5 meters below the top edge... the game will try and raise the bottom level all the way up the top, and it does not cost you extra stone to do so. And it does not matter if you raise the ground to high due to this either, since you can as easily dig away the excess afterwards anyway (and potentially get a little stone back as well). There is a limit to this though, where you can only raise the ground so far (think it is based on the bedrock below the surface or something)... but I don't think you would normally run into that limit unless you where trying to raise the ground into a huge tower. And of course, you only save stone if you intend to raise the ground a lot in a larger area. If all you want to do is raise the ground by one or two default level for a large section, then it is better to aim for the center of each 2x2 section. But if you intend to raise the ground level a lot in a larger area, then you will most likely save stone by aiming towards the edge and raising there instead. Sorry for the long post... always had a hard time writing short messages, no matter how much I try and sift away as much of it as possible. XD

Its called Buildshare (Advanced Building), its mainly for building any pre built house on nexus instantly and or save your own builds to use later or just paste anywhere else, but it includes a terraform feature for stuff like this, any size u want, deff recomend. @@PiceaGlauca OK but I'm not making trenches. I'm just trying to bring the ground up a bit to be relatively flush with a stone wall that I made. I assume the same rule applies? If my wall isn't running north/south the ground will run into it at jagged angles and leave holes against the wall?

I agree with how perfect this is, but for me.. I just can't do it. Some people have a compulsion to make things square, flat, neat, uniform and I have something that is almost the opposite. I just picked up this game last week, and i love it. Im currently building myself a raised trenched base on the shore. Its...a ton of work. But the moat will have water in it because I chose an area that had a small river running through the area. I plan on having a separate location with a teleporter to actually get inside the base. Its going to be a fortress. With a port. Its going to be amazing when its finished, but boy is it gonna take some time. Only thing im worried about is, enemies attacking areas im not actually at, but I dont think thats going to be a problem. So its going to be amazing. The fact your trench and flattening is so so clean. Amazes me. Great video.

Ypu could add the versatility of the Hoe. If you "Raise Ground" 5-7 times in the same spot and then aim the hoe at the side of your new pillar almost at the top (a lottle from the top) you can very cheaply make a flat surface from just 4 stone each time you click. The hoe extends the "pillar" you just made. Easy and cheap!

Did you ever build on this land? I flattened a large area like this and though not as good a job as you did, I was happy with it. Or I was... until I started building. The area became buggy, with foundations first starting to appear for some players and not others. We’d have to log out and back in to see what was real. That was annoying but somewhat manageable, but it got worse. Eventually, walls started to spontaneously crumble, and if we died in the area, our bag would sometimes disappear. We ended up having to abandon the area after all that work, which was obviously very demoralizing.

So far this has worked for me, I have about 9 workbenches and an area bigger than this and nothing has ever spawned inside the area, Its been a base like that a good 30-40 hours of gameplay since I got it to that point.
