The base of the new top is MDF and very smooth. It measures just a bit larger than the original table top.

did you have any issues with leaning on the talbe top? Im looking to make one of these myself :)

None at all. The game top edges are pretty close to the actual table top edges. Plus the mdf core is heavy enough to hold everything down.
