Hi Ross. We are new to your channel. We have a GD 2500RL which is similar to your rig. Your storage solution is an excellent idea. It looks like original equipment. Our rig is in storage for the winter but your mod made the list for 2022. Thank you.

I would like to seen how you attached the carpet, especially how you wrapped it around the edge of the plywood.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
Mark, the sides and back of the top piece was cut flush and the top was secured using a little construction adhesive. I pulled the front lip over and used 1/2 staples from a heavy duty stapler to secure it. It’s holding up perfectly. The front exposed piece is also stapled but you can’t feel the staples because they are so deep through the carpet so you could probably use them on the top instead of glue. Once everything was done I used a lighter to heat up the cut edges so the would not fray.

Imagine this, My first night in my RV. I wake up feeling great content ready to start the day, and then I get off the bed... More like a quick slide down, into the wall, onto the floor. this is the wife, my hubby made a 8" platform all around the bed after the first night and l slide out of the bed to the floor hitting my head on the wall,, lol l'm only 5' so for me that is a long way down, lol. Love the idea but could never do it. Our dogs sleep on each side of the bed and my wife would kill me if I took that space from them. 😆 It's a pain because we have to slide off the end of the bed to get out of the bedroom.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS3 жыл бұрын
No need to explain Eric, my wife would get rid of me before the dogs. Not kidding either 😆.

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Ditto for one of the dogs. But, if my wife ever threw me to the curb, the Siberian husky will end up with me. At least I'll be warm at night spooning with him. 😝😝😝
@derrybrant55052 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be better to split the top in half and use a brace in the middle so you can open it up and One side at a time it will increase the amount of weight that can be put on the top because of the center brace you only lose about 3/4 of an inch of space
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS2 жыл бұрын
You could, but with the top resting on all four sides and it being 3/4 pine it will hold quite some weight. It doesn’t even flex and I’m 180 lbs. but that’s a good idea for heavier people. The divider will prohibit larger items being stored in there if that’s something you want to use it for though. Thanks for the idea Derry.
@DougKarpf2 ай бұрын
shouldn't the side pieces be 23 1/4 x 8 ? 24 inches less 3/4 for the back piece?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS2 ай бұрын
no, youre looking at the working area dimensions. look at the locker floor dimensions, they are 23 1/4 by 23 1/4. so you take 3/4 off that and left with 22 1/2. where the working dimensions come into play (the 24" you are referencing) is the the top of the locker. it is 24" long, will stick out 3/4 of an inch past everything else (23 1/4) so you have a lip to pull up on. make sense?

Why make a bottom and not just use the floor, save a pound or two.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
The bottom adds more support to the entire structure so it could be stood on. Remember the top is not fixed so even when it’s closed is does not add support to the sides. Also, the bottom distributes the weight across the entire floor. Without a bottom theres pressure only where the sides, front and back are. That could be a problem for heavier folks and really chew up the floor. The structure is more solid and that’s more important to me than 2 pounds of weight.
