Used to use aluminum foil for head gaskets on lawnmower engines. Much thinner than stock gaskets. Didn't last very long though.

Homelite engines are fun to toy with and run. I had a few in boats back in the 90's. Their main problem is they dont have a full crank, just a half crank. It does limit your rpms. A modded out Homelite wasnt even on par with a stock Zenoah when they started to come out. So its been Zens for the last 25 years. They are all fun to toy with and tune.

Fantastic video, thanks! Question: What if I decided to keep the flywheel as is, with no material removal? Is weight the only penalty -- or is there some sort of incompatibility with the existing flywheel and a propeller (and custom-made) adapter?

Weight and drag would be the only issue. You definitely don't have to remove the fins but it cleans everything up nicely

What material did you use for the gasket?
@Spanky201883 жыл бұрын
I used 1/16 gasket paper for most if it. You can buy a roll from napa or and parts store. Also I used threebond gasket maker for areas that need that. Hope this helps

Thank you for the response. I would love to see more videos of your conversions. I'm going to build an Ultra SPADstick and even though I could throw a DLE 30 on it, I'd hate to put a $300 engine on a plane made out of a fence post and yard signs. I like the idea of a heavy engine up front so I won't have to add weight.

@@ronthompson882 Ok ill try to make another video soon. They are really underrated engines. Yes heavy but it doesn't need to go unlimited vertical. So cheap too as ppl just give them to you when they can't get them running. Win win good luck

@@Spanky20188 I guess these are best for snub nosed planes like ww1 fighters. Helps with countering tail heavy bi-planes. Thanks for the detailed instructions.
