@Aceman307 You can't use bare copper for coil windings. It would be like having a shorted coil ???
@GenoLoma

correct.. the wire must be insulated so that the current runs the full length of the wire coil, and not just jump through the shortest path from one side to the other. Electricity is a tricky bastard.. ;)

Hey did you try to wax the coil ? I got the idea from building a guitar pickup. you take wax, melt it for example at a deep fryer or a pot a put the coil into it for some minuten or so on (i don´t know how long it takes) a then you put it out let it cool down and you have a coil that will stick together itself. sorry for bad english im not englisch or american i´m german. greatings from germany.

what's the significance of 70 and 120 in making the coils and how does the diameter of the wire affect the winding?(thinner wire= less space for more windings? )
@Aceman307
@Aceman307 13 жыл бұрын
@enticed2zeitgeist No it does not have to be enamel coated wire but you want get much voltage out of it. The Idea is to get as much wire as close together as possible in the coils so to get the most voltage from each passing magnet.

@DEWessonsax I really needed to make this coils with more turns like 120 verses 70 I could never get my volts over 6volts with the wind conditions I have here. All the videos for making coils that I have seen show using one wire. I am now more interested in making some serpentine coils I hear they are much more efficient.

awesome videos..what is the middle piece(as far as size & diameter of it) that you use for the coil to be wrapped around? also you say you cut it in thirds what do you mean? ..are the outer discs the size of what the final product of the coil should be? thank you...
@Aceman307
@Aceman307 8 жыл бұрын
The disk in the middle is cut into three equal parts after you drill the hole in the middle its the piece that holds the coil. It makes it easier to take the wood disk out of the middle when done.

Aceman307 Oh ok great thank you I didn't cut it into thirds I made the two outer discs with a 2 inch hole saw and then the center disc to wrap the coil around a 1&1/2 inch hole saw...my email is ervin656@gmail.com I would like to show you the one I built and maybe be able to have you as a contact for guidance for other questions I may have doing it for a process technology engineering class and have to have it built and running in 3 weeks waiting on the wire to come in should be in today though..thank you again

The reason you use enamel coated wire is to get as many turns of copper as close as you can to the magnet the enamel is thin. You cant use bare wire it will not work. You could use say a thin telephone wire that has a plastic coating but this is not ideal.

+ Mark Villanueva It only matters so you can get as many winding's as possible in the tightest coil possible. The more copper you get close to the magnets helps the efficiency.

@eastsidesigns1Tthinner wire = more space for more turns . Also the smaller the wire the higher your volts will be but less amps. So the trick is to get the right combination of high enough volts to charge your batterys but not to high because more amps will charge the batterys faster.

I have never tested the stator using an exact RPM. emagnets has a few videos where he has set up his stators and can give you exact numbers for amps-volts -RPM. Of course these numbers really dont mean much unless you have a constant wind speed which most of us do not have. My generator produces from 0 no wind to 15 volts alot of wind. I am using 9 coils. I am now working with serpintine coils less time consuming to make and more effiecient. I am sorry not much help.

A question, can I make a antenna out of a coil, I think I could because it makes an electromagnetic force around itsself if you wind it in a bolt and connect 2 ends to positive and negative ends of an antenna to make it more powerful and if anyone say it doesn't tell me how should I make a powerful antenna, Thanks.

I dont understand ,why nobody put an iron core inside this hand wrapped coil for w.g ?
@GenoLoma
@GenoLoma 4 жыл бұрын
An Iron core would get attracted to the passing magnets, and act like a brake, slowing the rotation.. Wrapping a copper wire around an iron core is great if you are going to put current into the coil, as this will make the iron an electromagnet.. this is not the desired function of the coil in this video.. If you need this explained to you in any greater detail, perhaps building your own wind generator is not something you should tackle.

@DiversIFun 12 жыл бұрын
Very impressive technique. Awesome job of showing how to make coils, but you are using the wrong shape and size. Magnetic flux moving across the coil only produces electricity when it is perpendicular to the direction of the motion. Your coils only produce electricity near the middle and not near the inside and outside edges. Square coils will capture more power and the in/outside edges do not have to be under the magnets because they don't produce power anyway.
@andy347
@andy347 11 жыл бұрын
I thought that the voltage produced was a function of the number of turns in the coil, not the length of the wire.

@brown55061 I was able to find the wire locally at a electric supply company. Try to find a electric motor repair company or a big electric supply warehouse. They sell it here by the kilo, I got 10 kilos for about $ 70 dollars and it is enough wire to make a little more than 3 stators. I have seen people on Utube recycle wire but it seems like a lot of work. Good luck.
