15:33 You don't need to separate them one by one. In edit mode, select all, go to the mesh menu > Separate > By loose parts (this part may take a while depending on your computer and your object). >> credits to Surfaced Studio

I just finished the entire tutorial and followed it to a T, it was great and concise. You don't ramble on which is a major pet peeve of mine with other tutorials. Now the question is: Is this accurate for 3d printing? Resin Printing to be exact.

Interesting idea! I did not model this to fit with any keyboard components like switches ect so I cannot confirm that they would fit immediately, but you could model them to a compatible specification.

Hi! It's a great video because I want to do the same thing. I suggest you make available the Python script that creates this keys and keyboard. Some users, like me, use Python scritps to create Blender object. It's easy! As you know Blender generates a Python script for each of your actions. See Info view. You can choose to publish the Info logs raw (now editing) or if you are a Python programmer you can simplify it and structure it by separating parts of the construction into functions. Either way is good for me. That would be very useful to many viewers.

@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Sorry for the late reply - are you still having this issue. It should just work the same way as normal scaling but you move your mouse in the opposite direction. If this doesn’t work try entering values directly into the relevant field in the bottom left after scaling up, you’ll want the scale to be less than 1 but more than 0 for it to be scaled in.

you don't need to extrude objects if they're short, you can just move (G) the selected face in the direction u need it, otherwise good stuff

@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the interest. Any modifications to an object using modifiers including the array one do not show in the edit tab until they have been applied. To fix this you should apply the modifier, but this is non-reversible so make all the changes you need to the original key first. Thanks.

If you add this later on in the unreal engine will it be a huge memory eater? Dont know how to explain but you have so many sides (faces) for just 1 object.
@tjsbear1102

Hi, this is not a model intended for game engines since it is so high poly. If you want a lower poly version you could reduce the amount of segments on the bevels or even remove them completely with a normal map. That would mean you just need 6 faces for a single keycap. Theres a video by Blender Guru where he shows you how to do this, here: www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwil0PXKle_yAhULgf0HHaoEAtEQwqsBegQICxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0r-cGjVKvGw&usg=AOvVaw13oTTW59P75PtCaIZSBrG_ Hope this helps.

Sorry I was wondering how do you use the proportional editing, I tried everything from dragging to spamming my keyboard but I can't seem to curve it. I followed every step you did, but it doesn't seem to work, can you give a step by step? Thanks!
@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 3 жыл бұрын
Hi jason, sorry for the late reply. first turn on the proportional editing option (either the graphical button in the top centre of the 3D viewport or hotkey "O") then you'll need to select the vertices you want to move and scroll out a large amount change the radius of verticies, intitially this radius is incredibly large so you'll need to reduce it a lot, you can see the radius changing in the top left corner of the screen when you scroll in or out, its the final piece of info on the row. Once you have the correct sized area just move the vertice to the desired location and the others around it it should follow. This should work as shown in the video. Thanks.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, to answer your question I did in the original model. However in the tutorial I did not go into detail about the different heights and profiles of key caps and kept them all the same to simplify the model slightly. However the model I sell does contain different profiles of key caps. Thanks.

QUESTION: - this seems overly detailed - there is another tutorial that models the entire keyboard and texture emissive RGB in one video - so my question is, is this for a professional product demonstration for commercial use? vs the other one for a game asset?
@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shakaama, this keyboard tutorial series followed a showcase video of my own personal Blender project, which was an animated assembly of the keyboard. When making the keyboard in Blender, I wanted it to be as realistic as possible, so I modelled the inside and outside components in detail(which may be unnecessary for others, but not in my use case). The video tutorials just mirrored what I did in my project, and I aimed to provide an insight into why I did certain things and how to avoid the issues I came across. Hopefully this answers your question. Thanks for the feedback.

i suub. can you make an artisan keycap? how to make it?
@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s entirely possible to make a completely custom shape and style of keycap. You would start with a simple keycap (like the one in my video) and then add the various extras on to it using boolean modifiers. For more organic shapes you should use sculpting to get a more realistic shape. The only problem I can think of is with texturing because they tend to be quite detailed, I’d recommend doing a texture map for character models or anything with more than 6 shaders because after that it becomes difficult to manage. I probably won’t make a video tutorial on this because it is quite niche and the they’re all different. Thanks for the interest

@tjsbear1102
@tjsbear1102 3 жыл бұрын
Ok, so you'll need to make a seperate keycap instead of one thats been copied from the others, it should be the exact same process apart from the first step where before you would add a plane and thats it, - for a L-shape its a little different. You would start by adding a plane but then go into edit mode (tab) to alter the shape of the plane, to do this add a single loop cut (ctrl+r) so it spits the plane along the x axis. Then extrude bottom right and bottom middle vertices to make a rough shape. Then you can adjust the position of each vertex to fine tune the shape to be more like the key you want. From there it is the exact same process as with the other keycaps. Sorry for the delay.
