How to Build a Large Powder Coating Oven DIY UPDATE
It's been awhile since we've done an update on our propane powered DIY powder coating oven build. If you've been a subscriber for awhile you already know that we built our first powder coating oven 4'x4'x5' and powdered it with a 75,000 - 125,000 BTU Mr Heater propane heater.
Just a few months ago when we expanded the oven to 4'x8'x5' we had to upgrade the heater because the one that we were using was not working well for that size oven. So we upgraded to a 250,000 to 425,000 BTU Mr Heater propane heater. You can get the electric solenoid here amzn.to/2Xfm3Hl
In this video we go over how we built our DIY powder coating oven, some mistakes we made, and what we would do different if we were to build it again. We also explain in depth on how to wire up your InkBird PID controller for your oven.

I run my 8x4x12 oven off of 2 300000btu mr heaters. They work great. I powder coat professionally and avoided paying out 20k for a oven. Great work guys

It seems the best way to go for sure! $20k for an oven and you have to wait 6-8 weeks before you get it.

I really like this. I have never powder coated, but am looking to start at home. One thing that confuses me is why in the Eastwood powder coating videos they say never use a gas oven but I see and hear of folks using gas ovens. If anyone could help explain that would be great. Thanks for sharing this video, looks really great and Im glad you got a system that works for you.

It could be for their specific powder, not all powders are created equal. Although I do know people who have put their powder in a gas oven and not had any issues.

Good video and thank you. However, you glanced over the solenoid really quick and didn't show it inline with the propane tank. Some people might not understand the PID shuts off not only the heater but the gas feed as well.

Hi, great tutorial indeed. Keep up :) Two questions - since there is no even spreading of the hot air inside the oven - won't be the coated parts heated unevenly (closer will be overheated and further undercured)? Second - you blow the hot air into closed chamber with closed pressure. Therefore within a second the volume of the air coming through the propeller of the heater will be much smaller. Cannot be the heater damaged by this low air stream? thanks

I hope and you're more recent videos you fix the volume spikes and lows in your editing software. Some shots you're talking so close to the camera have to turn the volume down and sum you far away and I have to turn the volume up. I have watched far too much KZbin in the last 10 years and as far as I can remember this is the only video I've ever had to do that with

Thank you for you input. This video is quite a few years old. Back from when we first started. We actually never had anyone tell us this, so it’s good to have feedback 👍

ummm it is, the heater/blower is grounded just like any other Mr. Heater. Not to mention the other ground we have going to our booth, and the fans for the booth. Thanks for the tip, I think we're good.

@@710performance unless you got different power in the US then I do in canada here (120v 60hertz). the green wire from your black cord that feeds everything should be tapped onto the metal frame of your oven and the green screw on your plugin. Just incase. Right now if your live wire melts thru or somehow touches any metal parts your whole oven is live lol and your breaker won't trip. I'm a journeyman electrician by trade. I pretty much have the same setup on my oven but my ssr is a 40A cuz mine is Electric not propane powered. Not trying to be an a$$ just letting you know 🤙safety first right 😂 🤙love the videos man! Keep it up!

I'm confused on this as well. Typically in my experience black is hot, green is ground, white is neutral. Or am I wrong? You're calling the black wire coming into number 1 the ground. Is that not powering it? And then you're saying the white is the power. The number 2 slot up top is going to the ground on the wall outlet but the green ground wire from the plug isn't even being used. I'm just slightly confused. I want to build my own oven and I don't want to do it wrong.
