didn't see if you already had it, but you should plumb in a pipe to the bottom of the air tank to drain moisture from ground level to make it easy to drain the tank every few working hours. nice shop setup

I really enjoyed the video! I just started a small business using everything you used and I’m just at the point I’m ready to upgrade everything. I used the harbor freight style powder coating system which works well but I go through way to much powder. I really love how your system used so little and your hopper bottles are integrated into the system. A lot less mess and storage looks great. Where did you get your filters? I’m planning to upgrade my oven as well and I had no idea Eastwood offered an oven as well. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me they have some awesome tools. I really like the way your shop is set up and looks very efficient. I’ve definitely subscribed. Thx for the great content.

Thanks for checking in and that’s awesome your starting your small business! Being able to do something you enjoy for a living is what we all strive for! Having a really good ground has been a huge part of using less powder and the gun I have works amazing for what I use it for. The filters are just 16”x20”x2” from my local hvac supplier. The Eastwood oven works amazing but it is pricey. If you have the ability to build your own out of sheet metal and a few old ovens would be probably a lot cheaper but the Eastwood one is plug and play ready to go which is nice! If you have any more questions just ask!

Thanks! Depending on what you’re doing the Kool Koat 2.0 works great for smaller projects like rims and motorcycle parts ect. If you’re running a powder coat business I’d recommend a bigger set up. Nice setup! I have seen in the comments on the paint booth that you wished it was wider. How has it been working for you? I am at the needing a bigger oven stage. Can't afford that nice Eastwood one though so will be building one from parts.
@martinjamesdesigns3748
@martinjamesdesigns3748 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Iann! Yes I do wish the booth was probably 3’ wider so I could move around the parts a bit better without having to work outside the booth. I’m happy with the fan set up cause it’s ample enough cfm to pull the powder away from outside. Yes I hear you on the oven! My first oven I built with metal studs and a few used ovens. 3 elements and reused the whole control and set up. It worked great but wasn’t an ideal set up for the amount of work I planned on doing.

I have one more question. How do you charge when powder coating? Sandblasting is one thing. But do you charge by the part or time or by the weight of the powder? That’s my biggest problem.
@martinjamesdesigns3748
@martinjamesdesigns3748 Жыл бұрын
I honestly charge by the part. I like to see it first. Depending on the condition it’s in and what Color they chose will determine the price. If it’s a multi color powder it’s obviously more. I’d figure out how long it will take you and add your hourly rate and then charge a flat fee for your powder. I typically charge a lb of powder minimum which covers your cost. Sandblasting I always do hourly

@@Mms_35830 typically that is the downfall with the Eastwood or harbour freight guns. I myself found it hard to have a consistent flow. Hey man! I did some research and my friend had the dual voltage Eastwood gun and I found it wasn’t that more effective then the single. The one I got was more of a semi professional gun and it gave me the opportunity to get into more quality coatings for less then the professional ones. This gun has been amazing for me and I’ve had no issues
